Some past results first, during which the weather started to improve but there was still too much wind for most.
However, the Wednesday tabs-in game on October 19 was played in lovely sunny weather which resulted in a good turnout.
Last Thursday we played the penultimate Bess Tweedie and Men's Kenton / Kowie at Kowie BC with much wind to start with but temperatures are now beginning to rise. The ladies lost one and won one which brings their year-to-date score to Kenton 14, Kowie 6. For the men the year-to-date is Kenton 16, Kowie 24. So for the final game in mid-November the men's teams need to win all four team games to peel the years result.
Last Friday we played the monthly sponsored Personal Trust Trips with 14 teams entered again with some early wind. Carl from Personal Trust was with us and played in one of the teams and handed out the prizes. Rob Croly with Gloria Schmidt and Brian Aldag came first with 23 points and a shot profit of 25! Second was Richard Beresford with Hermy Scholtz and Keith Benson 19 + 8 and third Patricia Greig with 18 + 1. Patricia's team was Lolly Biggs and Lee Slater.
The 20 best-end prizes just show what can be achieved in cash prizes. Patricia Greig had a total of seven carry overs which gave each of her team something like R130 each. Then Richard Beresford had three carry overs in the second game which gave R160 to each of his team! Rob Croly's team actually scored a 9 on the ninth end of the second game which had the other (unknown) team really gnashing their teeth.
Yesterday we played the penultimate Doris Ford and Les Clarke Inter Club Competition. Results will be on our notice boards in due course.
This coming weekend we play the annual Eastern Areas (EA) Buco Trips at Port Alfred BC. Two men’s and one ladies’ team playing five games of 15 ends with 8 points a game. Results in next week’s paper.
On November 3 we play the monthly sponsored Kenton Seeff Properties Competition followed on Saturday November 5 with the monthly social with snacks and cake at tea time. Then on Tuesday November 8 and Wednesday November 9 we play our annual Ladies’ Classic. There will be no tabs-in on November 9.
Last Friday Night’s Draw worth R1 500 saw no 57 coming out which belonged to the absent Mick Rushmere, so tomorrow the draw will be worth R1 600.
Last Saturday tabs-in saw a reduced field due to the previous day’s monthly trips. However those that did play had a marvellous non-competitive game with much laughter and enjoyment due to the work being done to the running surface which created a great "leveller" of players’ ability.
On duty for the week October 31 to November 6: Tabs-in – Bill Bedford, Bar – Tim Bradbury and Lee Slater.
Tailpiece: Upon reflection, senior citizens are NOT responsible for taking the romance out of love. Yes I’m a senior citizen and I think I am having the time of my life.
