LADIES’ RESULTS October 18: Once again the easterly winds roared on Tuesday afternoon, making it very difficult for the 22 Ladies’ Section members who played in a Bisque Bogey.

Lizzie Lambrechts won the afternoon’s action with +7 and Dee Jones-Phillipson came home second with +5.

Yvonne Hill and Theresa Loundar hit the longest drives on the 17th in the lower and higher handicap sections respectively.

Joan Austin holed two clubs on both the sixth and the eighth, with Kim Gardner making her birdie on the eighth.

Bettine Hattingh was nearest the pin on Top Carpet’s sixth, Jo-Anne Hillier on the eighth and Sandy Fryer on Wimpy’s 11th. Sandy was also “closest-for-two” on River Spa’s 13th. Tuesday November 1: This will see the annual “Picture Match” take place between the Port Alfred and Grahamstown ladies’ sections. FRESH STOP PORT ALFRED MIXED October 22: At last some kind weather faced the 27 players who turned out to play the weekly Fresh Stop mixed stableford alliance competition.

Warm and partly overcast, the soft westerly breezes provided some comfort to the field drawn into one mixed three-ball and six mixed four-balls.

There was one allmale covey, and as luck would have it, Mike Stadler, Barrie B Brady, Bryan Robinson and Mike Reid won the competition with 92 points. They were just one point ahead of runners-up Heather van Harmelen, Dale Wisener, Andy Manson and Martin Lambrechts.

At the tail end of the points list were Rosie Calmeyer-Leach, Philip van der Byl and Wian van Aswegen, whose three ball’s five bonus points were insufficient to avoid the weekly energy drinks supplied by the sponsors to those most in need.

Bryan Robinson holed the only two club of the morning (sixth).

Good nett scores were shot by Dee Jones-Phillipson, Pogs Smith, Bryan Robinson (67), Guy Cash, Barrie Brady (68), Lynn West and Martin Lambrechts (69). Pogs was also closest to the pin on the eighth to win the sponsor’s bottle of wine.

The Sunshine Coast Hospice received another R1 000 from the PAM section during the week. KGB RESULTS Tuesday October 18: A warm, sunny morning was soon spoiled by strong, gusty easterly winds, making playing conditions difficult at the RPAGC. It saw 35 players drawn into one three-ball and eight four-balls in a two-to-count stableford alliance.

The three-ball of Mike Stadler, Eric Segers and the fair Rosie CalmeyerLeach defied the debilitating wind to score a super 86 + 5 = 91 points and win the competition.

Second-placed Neil Loundar, Matt Chadwick, Dale Wisener and Heinz Czepluch carded 86 points.

Three covies scored 78 points to tie for the infamous Hamer en Sukkel trophy.

There were no twoclubs holed during the morning, but Heinz (68), Rosie, Matt and Dale (69) would all have been pleased with shooting the nett scores indicated. Friday October 21: Yet another day of strong winds sweeping the RPAGC made conditions difficult for golfers. This saw 24 players drawn into six four-balls to play the usual two-to-count stableford alliance.

Despite the wind, there were some very good scores.

The best was the 94 carded by Bob Shaw, Barrie Brady, Bryan Shirley and Richard Laing. Not far behind to win second place was the covey of Phillip van der Byl, James Weisters, Gerald Churchley and Eric Segers on 92.

The worst score of the day was that carded by Mick Rushmere, Tommy Meyer, and Peter and Debbie Longhurst (83), whose fortunes were completed by sharing the 19th hole with the Hamer en Sukkel.

Two clubs were holed by Richard Laing, Eric Segers (sixth), James Weisters, Eric Segers, Debbie Longhurst (eighth) and Barrie B Brady (11th).

Richard shot the best nett individual round of the day (64).

Other good nett scores were recorded by James, Gerald and Johny Johnston (68).
