The finals of an exciting Oceana Competition were played last Saturday and the lucky winners were Noel Heale, John Bennet, Jenny Frost and Julie Sluizik.

Well done folk and a big thank you for an excellent one-off sponsorship from Oceana Game Lodge. This prize brought a field of 56 players to contest over two bowling days.

Playing in gentle rain all afternoon gave us heavy greens and added a certain degree of difficulty. Our Triangular Tournament will be held this Saturday and Sunday and a full field of 24 players will vie for the trophy (a mounted chamber pot, remember?). We look forward to our usual fun and camaraderie and good bowls.

Our mixed nominated pairs will play their third round on Wednesday November 16.

The final round of the Colleen Timm and Moore shield will be played at our club on Saturday November 19.

Duties for the week November 15-19: Tabs – Hilary Allen and John Bennet, Bar – Dave Lang, Gordon Goff and John Bennet, Ironing – Colin Barnard.

Last Tuesday, we played the MegaBucks Competition and as of this month, we have changed our game draws to a closed draw done in the tabs rooms and then brought out for the members to view.

We had a full green turnout for bowls with Bob Ford’s team of Jonine McFarlane, Thersa Coetser and Keith Benson (Kenton) being on top form to take the “big Bucks” home by defeating Rodney Gradwell’s team of fours with a full house of points. The runner-up was Stan Long’s (Albany) team, also with a full house, defeating Rob Owsley’s team of fours.

The next result was also a full house of points. The new draw will be to balance the teams so we can have closer games, which will not take into account individual performances on the day.

Last Thursday, there being no sponsored competitions, we played Snowball, which is a luck-of-the-draw result.

We had a combination of five greens playing in changing weather and the end numbers drawn for the day were four, six, 17 and 18, with the score for the four ends being two.

Well we had three teams coming in with that score – Lucile Keyter, Jackie Kriel and Pieter Stegmann – and this Snowball kitty is not shared so it rolls over to the next round.

On Saturday, we played the sponsored Guido’s competition in threatening weather and at times we almost walked off.

Of the three games played, two were peeled and Jacques Krige’s team of Judy Hunter and Linda May beat Michael van der Sandt’s team 2/+8, to be presented with the Guido’s vouchers for this month’s competition.

On Sunday, we sent two teams to Grahamstown BC to play in their Irene Mills mixed-fours competition.

I have played bowls in better weather but a very pleasant competition was had as conditions improved by the end of the day, with Stan Long’s (Albany) team the winners, with home-club team Rina Goosen in second spot and Mike Tomlinson’s team in third place.

Duties for week November 14-20: Greens – (Roll) Ed Hoseck, (Mark) Basil Clarke and Rod Gradwell, Tabs – (Cash) Theresa Coetser, (Select) Charles Louw, Bar – Basil Clark and Allan Sheridan.
