Ladies’ Results

November 1:

The morning rain had cleared before the ladies’ section teed off against the Belmont ladies in Grahamstown, playing the annual match for the “picture” trophy.

The RPAGC prevailed by winning the competition 9-5, thereby retrieving the picture to be hung in Port Alfred for the next year.

Jean Austin and Linda Dobson won the longest drive competitions on the first hole in the lower and higher handicap sections respectively. There were no two-clubs.

Gaye Osborne was both closest to the pin on Top Carpets’ sixth and “nearest-for-two” on River Spa’s 13th.

Heather van Harmelen was closest on the eighth, with Jean Austin doing likewise on Wimpy’s 11th. November 16’s competition will be the monthly medal-sponsored by Pick n Pay.

Fresh Stop Port Alfred Mixed

November 5: It was unfortunate that overnight rain deterred players from turning out for Fresh Stop’s weekly mixed competition, especially as the Rushmere Cup was at stake this Saturday. As it was, the morning remained dry and playing conditions were good. Just 21 players were drawn into three three-balls and three four-balls to play the usual two-to-count Stableford alliance.

Tommy Meyer, Mo Marsay, Lizzie Lambrechts and Terry Harris dove-tailed well to record 93 points and win the competition.

In so doing, they became the new holders of the Rushmere Cup. Pogs and Bruce Smith, playing alongside Ronel and Andy Hough, came home second with 90 Points.

Barrie B Brady, Dee and Cecil Jones-Phillipson carded a lowly 76 points to receive the regenerative Energade drinks for coming bottom of the points list.

Eric Segers holed the only twoclub of the morning (sixth). The best net scores were recorded by Lynn West (68), Mo Marsay, Ronel Hough and Derek Sinclair (69).

Glynnis Renecle won the weekly bottle of wine for being closest to the pin on the eighth. KGB RESULTS

Tuesday November 1: Morning drizzle limited the field to 20 players, although it petered out shortly after tee-off, with the field drawn into five four-balls to play the normal two-to-count Stableford alliance. Eighty-five points secured victory for Barrie B Brady, Mike Stadler and Paul Fryer. Hot on their heels were Andy Manson, John Crandon and Heinz Czepluch on 84.

Way behind the rest of the field was John Abbot, Derick van Meulen and Rosie Calmeyer-Leach, who carded a measly 69, and were dealt the infamous Hamer en Sukkel.

Bob Shaw and David Groenewald both made birdie on the sixth, with John Crandon doing likewise on the eighth. Paul Fryer had a great day on the par threes, making a two-club on both the sixth and the eighth.

Fryer also had the best nett round shooting 66. Hugh Holmes (68), Dave Curran and Heinz (69) also enjoyed the damp conditions on the day.

Friday November 4: Good weather saw 37 players drawn into three three-balls and seven four-balls to play a two-to-count Stableford.

David Groenewald, James Weisters, Freek van Rooyen and visitor Andries Pienaar combined and dove-tailed to perfection to card a massive 98 points to win the competition. Second-placed Wilton Adcock, Chris Niebieszczanski, Heinz Czepluch and Tom Tagg were a far off second on 93 points.

During a morning in which high scores dominated, the rather lowly 72 points carded by Liz Mangham, Andy Barnes, Richard Laing and Tim Leach earned them the Hamer en Sukkel.

Terry Harris had the best nett of the day, shooting 63 with Andries Pretorius and Mike Beaumont close behind on 64. Other good nett scores were recorded by Heinz, Chris (67), Freek, Len Bohnen (68), Gordon Den, Rosie Calmeyer-Leach, Matt Chadwick and Colin Armstrong (69).

Par three birdies were holed by Terry (eighth), Colin Armstrong, Mike Beaumont, Mike Stadler (11th) and Eric Segers (13th).
