LADIES’ Results

December 6: A sunny afternoon with a near gale-force easterly wind did not offer ideal conditions for the 41 players who turned out for Tuesday's ladies section’s annual “Skins” tournament. Every member of each covey played against each other for a monetary contribution donated from funds raised by the monthly “chicken” days throughout the year. So there are no winners for this week's competition. The longest drives on the ninth were driven by Lynn West and Jo-Anne Hilliar in the low and higher handicap sections respectively. There were no two-clubs. Debbie Ford was nearest the pin on Top Carpets’ sixth, Dee Jones-Phillipson on the eighth and Debbie once again on Wimpy’s 11th. The smooth swinging Glyn Renecle was “nearest-for-two” on River Spa’s 13th. The best nett rounds of the day were shot by Ingrid Griffiths (64) and Kim Gardner (67). The annual end-of-year dinner and Christmas party were celebrated at the club after golfing procedures were complete for the day.

Fresh Stop Port Alfred Mixed

December 10: Overcast, warm and practically windless conditions constituted good news for Saturday’s mixed morning competition and 17 women and 19 men were drawn into mixed four-ball alliances to play a two-to-count Stableford.

The “bachelor” herd of Guy Cash, Eric Segers and Tim and Greg Shanks had a marvellous morning carding a monster 99 points to easily win the competition. Lynette Harbrecht, Glyn Renecle, Anton Emslie and Terry Harris came home second with 96.

Mike Reid, Sandy Fryer and Jenny and John Ralph found the going more difficult managing to card just 84 points, the lowest of the morning - and the recipients of the sponsor’s recuperative Energade drinks.

The strong winds that pervaded the course this past week have made it hard with lots of running.

Consequently, there were many good nett scores made on Saturday, the best being Tim Shanks (64), Vino Bearzi, Terry Harris, Eric Lindsay (67), Glyn Renecle, Pogs Smith, Greg Shanks (68), Sheena Warren, Eric Segers and Gaby Hausman-Tarpani (69). Pogs also won the sponsor’s bottle of wine for being closest to the pin on the 8th.

This was the last PAM meeting for the year, but it will re-open again in early January next year.

PAM is a giving organisation and during the year donated a total of R6000 to the SPCA and a further R6 000 to Sunshine Coast Hospice.

KGB Results

Tuesday November 6: Strong easterly winds made the going difficult for the 41 players who turned out to play the usual two-to-count Stableford alliance. The difficult conditions were somewhat mitigated by the drying out of the course over the last week or so, yielding faster fairways.

The field was drawn into eight four-balls and three three-balls.

Wind or no wind seemed to be of little concern to Brian Connack, John Crandon, Cecil Grobler and John Muggeridge, as they powered their way to carding a winning 95 points. Second-placed John Abbott, visitor Kevin Penrose, Brian Hayward and Gerald Churchley were all of five points off the pace on 90.

David Groenewald, Russell Warren and James Weisters did feel the pain of the wind as they could only muster 71 + 5 = 76 points, which inevitably left them stranded, sharing the 19th hole with the Hamer en Sukkel trophy.

There were no two-clubs. Martin Weaver, Cecil Grobler and Neil Loundar all netted fine 66s. Other good nett scores were by Paul Fryer (68), Brian Connack and James Weisters (69).

Friday December 9: Gale-force westerly winds made playing conditions very difficult for the 33 players who turned up for Friday's KGB golf. The field was drawn into three three-balls and six four-balls to play the usual two-to-count Stableford alliance.

Roy de Wet, John Ralph, Cecil Grobler and Peter Reed managed to card 90 points, despite the hostile weather. They won the competition beating Barrie B Brady, Lynne Lake and Gaby Hausman-Tarpani's into second place on 88.

The “A” team of Johny Johnston, Tommy Meyer and Martin Lambrechts ended up at the bottom of the points list on 79 – putting them on Hamer en Sukkel duty at the 19th hole.

Lynne holed a par three birdie on the 8th, as did Brian Shirley (sixth), Danny Tarpani and Barrie (11th). The best nett scores were by Gaby (66), John Ralph (67) and Brian Shirley (69).
