The acquisition of knowledge

SCHOOLS and universities are once again bustling with pupils and young adults seeking to acquire further knowledge for their future life.

Thousands of tiny tots are just beginning with their school career, while others are hoping their recently acquired degree will open employment opportunities for them.

Knowledge has increased so dramatically that those living a hundred years ago would surely be bemused, baffled and totally bewildered at the technology we have at our disposal today.

Speaking about the time of the end, the Lord said to Daniel, “Many will go here and there to increase knowledge” (the King James Version adds, “and knowledge shall be increased”). Knowledge is essential, for life’s achievements are gained by the practical application of what we know.

What about the knowledge of God though?

How much do we know about His personal attributes or His dealings with this world (past, present and future)?

“Since the creation of the world, God’s invisible qualities – his eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse” (Romans 1:20).

The vastness, beauty and intricacy of creation reveals the existence of an all-wise God!

One of the disciples said to the Lord Jesus, “Show us the Father”.

Jesus answered: “Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father” (John 14:8, 9), and again, “He who receives me receives the one who sent me” (Matthew 10:40).

The Bible is inspired revelation for anyone to read.

“I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better” (Ephesians 1:17).
