Sunday January 22 Oldenburgi­a Hiking Club Day Hike – Bat’s Cave and Old Woman’s River from Fish River Sun. Child-friendly as we can take it very slowly to enjoy the beach and caves. The hiking route includes thick coastal forest, cliff tops, beach and the golf course. It is about 6km or 7km, should take at least four hours. Meet at Pick n Pay car park, Grahamstow­n, at 7am. We will drive in convoy to the start (about 90km). Port Alfred folk can meet at Fish River Sun parking lot at 8.30am or we can share lifts from Buddy’s at 8am. Bring: Good hiking shoes/boots, hat and sunscreen, water and refreshmen­ts for morning tea. We will have a picnic at Old Woman’s River where we are allowed to play on the canoes. Cost: R10 per person, plus about R70 for fuel, payable on the day. Bring cash if you want to order drinks at Old Woman’s River or food and drink at the hotel pool. Advocate Paul Hoffmann of Accountabi­lity Now will speak on the need for an Integrity Commission. After retiring from the Bar, Hoffman was founding director of the Centre for Constituti­onal Rights and co-founder, in 2009, of Accountabi­lity Now, both NGOs that promote constituti­onalism. He is best known for his work on the irregulari­ties in the arms deals, on the unconstitu­tionality of the Hawks and on the bread cartel case in which a general class action was developed by the courts.
