Race results:

Well done to Lori Lowe who ran the Friendly City Marathon 10km in Port Elizabeth on Saturday January 28 in 1:04:49.

Jean and Carol Nepgen have been busy.

January 21: Izimbiwa Coal 5-in-1 Races, Middelburg, Mpumulanga

Carol entered the 32km race, while Jean did the half marathon. The route for both races was quite challenging, but as all the races had the same cut-off time, there was no pressure. Carol finished the 32km in 4:05:24, while Jean did the half marathon in 4:01:09. January 22: Garbie 32 and 15km Races, Springs

Carol again did the 32km and Jean did the shorter race, which was a single lap of the 32km. Carol took it easy this time, finishing in 5:10:04. Jean’s time for the 15km was 2:52:16.

January 25: Arwyp Medical Centre 15 and 5km Night Race, Edenvale

Carol walked the 15km, while Jean again chose the shorter 5km. Carol finished in 2:01:25 and won a prize for being the second female grandmaster (runners and walkers). Over 1 000 people took part in the 5km event, so there was a lot of congestion all the way. Jean finished in 0:50:51. January 28: Volksrust Marathon Club 5-in-1 Road Races, Mpumulanga

The Nepgens’ approach was the same as a week earlier, with Carol walking the 32km and Jean taking on the half marathon. The route is challenging, but there was again no cut-off pressure. Carol finished the 32km in 4:28:51 while Jean took 4:06:10 to complete the 21.1km.

January 29: Johnson Crane Hire Half Marathon, Benoni

This was a very well organised event and the route is not tough at all. Carol left Jean in the dust, finishing in 2:57:27 while Jean strolled along to finish in 4:02:46. February 4: Cassies 15 and 5km Road

Races, Port Elizabeth

Both events started and finished at Kabega Park Primary School. Carol walked the 15km, finishing in an impressive 1:57:40. Jean’s time for the 5km was 0:49:41.
