Making strides at Buffs with new members
LAST Saturday, the Kowie Striders took to the roads of East London, successfully completing the Buffs Marathon and Half Marathon.
The runners departed from Port Alfred in the peaceful hours of the morning, driven by Amanda Mould of El Shaddai Christian Academy. and her fiancé, Gavin Rathbone. The jovial conversations and shared camaraderie made the long drive to East London surprisingly quick.
However, as the marathon starting time of 5.30am drew closer, and with many kilometres still to travel, anxiety grew in the bus for marathon competitor Marianne Stiglingh.
With literally only minutes to spare, Marianne bounded out the bus and sprinted to join the runners at the starting line.
Half marathon competitors Sticks Stiglingh, Avril Beyleveld, Lungisani Mtsatse and Heidi Lamberti all made it in time to warm up and soak up the race day atmosphere.
The day held special significance for Lamberti as this was her first road race in the Eastern Cape since moving here from Gauteng.
The day also marked the start of Lamberti and Lulu Mceka’s relationship with Kowie Striders, which welcomed the new members.
“Running is truly an enjoyable way to get fit and stay healthy. Being a member of a running club affords one the support, coaching, sharing of knowledge and the opportunity to make great friends,” Lamberti said.
Everyone is welcome to join the Kowie Striders at the Port Alfred Country Club on Tuesdays at 5.30pm for time trials.
