Classics at the Castle’s 10th birthday next month

-

CLASSICS at the Castle celebrates a whole decade of fine music offerings with an autumn soiree on Sunday April 9.

On the stage at Richmond House Museum Music Room will be the pride of the Eastern Cape in Trio ANiCa “Asia” – pianist Joanna Wicherek, violist Nick Fidler and cellist Caleb Vaughan-Jones.

“We’re lucky enough to have hosted both Joanna and Caleb three times before as soloists or as part of other ensembles, and this will be Nick's third visit,” Classics convener Sue Gordon said.

All three versatile musicians cross genres with ease (for example, between jazz and classics), so their chamber ensemble repertoire is similarly varied.

There’ll be something old and something new, Gordon promised.

First, two fascinating contemporary East European works – by Arvo Paert and Alexey Kurbatov – respectively, and in the second half, the popular tango rhythms of Astor Piazzolla and a beautiful contemplative Brahms Trio (Opus 114 in A minor) to end the afternoon.

The concert is at 3pm for 3.30pm.

Tickets cost R80 which, as usual, include a welcome drink and an informative programme. Drinks are served at 3pm for the concert to start promptly at 3.30pm.

Tickets are on sale at Kowie News Agency, but out-of-towners are welcome to call KNA on (046) 624-2036 to reserve tickets, providing these are paid for soon after.
