BOWLSBANTER

- ... what’s happening

Friday was Personal Trust Trips day with the usual steak evening afterwards with the meat supplied by Kenton Butchery. The entries were disappointing, with only 10 teams competing.

It didn’t affect the quality of bowls though and Lionel, Gloria and Carl Vermeulen (representing the sponsors, Personal trust) were the eventual winners.

It turned out to be an evening of give-aways with several lucky draws being done. Terry Bowen managed the Club 100 draw where Richard Beresford won the first prize, Joan Grisdale the second prize and Tony Mann the attendance prize. The Whiskey Draw was won by Mick Carle. The weekly Attendance Jackpot Prize was won by Johan Grobler. Unfortunately for Johan, the Jackpot had been won the previous week as well and was therefore at its minimum. Next week’s Jackpot will be R500.

On the second Tuesday of the month we played our SuperSpar competition with a good turnout.

Jackie Kriel’s team of Allan Sheridan and Louise Fleming defeated Pieter Stegmann’s team by nine points and 9-shot profit to win the Spar vouchers for the day. The runner-up was Rob Owsley’s team who beat Bob Ford’s team.

On the day we had one make-up game of the Club Mixed trips take place as well as playing in the Spar competition. Lee Botma’s team defeated Siggie Rohrs’s team in a game that saw Botma’s team well up on the 12th end. Then Rohrs’s team started coming back and on the 17th end were just four shots behind. But then the Botma team pulled it out the bag.

Last Thursday we had another good field for our Ocean Basket competition. Jackie Kriel is on a roll at the moment with her team of Roger Purdon, Gerald Mills and Margie Thomas who defeated Siggie Rohrs’s team by two points and 14-shot profit to win Ocean Basket vouchers. The runner up position went to Keith Kolesky’s team of trips who defeated Mike Tomlinson by two points and a shot profit of eight , also to receive Ocean Basket vouchers. On Saturday we played two games of our Men’s Open Singles for members who will not be available for our next scheduled date. Dick Schuurman defeated Michael van der Sandt quite convincingly and Keith Kolesky had to work hard to take out Stephen Minnaar. Tabs bowls we played Snowball Competition and the score drawn for the four ends selected was five. Lucky Mike Long was the only team that had the correct score so Mike and his team of fours shared R100. Now we have to start on building that kitty again. Duties for week March 27 to April 2: Greens – (Roll) Michael van der Sandt, (Mark) Gerald Mills and Mike Pfotenhauer, Tabs – (cash) Marian Walwyn, (selection) Charles Louw, Bar – Keith and Lynn Kolesky.
