LADIES’ RESULTS March 21 A warm, sunny afternoon moderated by gusty, easterly breezes provided a pleasant background for golf on Tuesday afternoon. Thirty-five players responded by entering the better-ball Stableford competition sponsored by the Ocean Basket. Bridget McNellis and Andrea Key won the afternoon’s outing by counting out Theresa Loundar and Lynn Lake into second place, both teams carding creditable 45 points. In turn, Lizzie Lambrechts and Helen Lockyear counted out Pogs Smith and Launa Kirk (on her last ladies’ competition before returning to the UK after her annual “swallows vacation”) to snap up the third position one point in arrears on 44. Ronel Hough and Lynn Lake both sank birdies on the 8th after Lynn was closest to the pin on this FNB hole. Shirley Heny was nearest on Top Carpets’ 6th whilst nobody hit the green on Wimpy’s 11th. Bridget’s second shot was closest to the pin on River Spa's 13th. The longest drive competitions were held on the 14th and struck by Shirley and Jude Lello in the lower and higher handicap sections respectively. Joy Altson, Bridget and Elfi Krummery all shot nett 69 for the best individual efforts on the day. The competition on the 4th April 4 will be the Monthly Medal sponsored by Pick n Pay. FRESH STOP PORT ALFRED MIXED March 25 Wind Guru announced rain all morning on its website's Saturday weather forecast. The truth of the matter was, however, that it remained sunny, dry with chilly, westerly breezes. The result was a relatively small turnout of just 23 players who were drawn into one mixed 3-ball and five mixed 4-balls to play the usual 2-to-count Stableford alliance. In a morning of mediocre scores, the 90 points carded by John Ralph, Martin Lambrechts, June and Vino Bearzi stood out to win the morning’s proceedings. Danny Tarpani, Dee and Cecil Jones-Phillipson came home second on 82+ 5 = 86 points. Sandy Fryer, Margie Reid, Fanie Smit and Terry Harris counted out Bryan Robinson, Barrie Brady, Rusty Hallam and Heather van Harmelen to come bottom of the points list on 80 and be the recipients of the sponsor’s recuperative energy drinks. Eric Segers' drive was closest to the hole on the 8th to win the bottle of wine on offer. He went on to make a 2-club, the only one of the morning's play. There were no individual rounds of note. KGB RESULTS Tuesday March 21: Weather conditions proved to be perfect on Tuesday with light easterly breezes cooling an otherwise hot and sunny morning. Once again a good turnout of 49 players was drawn into three 3-balls and ten 4-balls to play the usual 2-to-count Stableford alliance. A really superb morning it was for Dale Wisener, Ray Hicks, Martin Lambrechts and Tom Tagg as they amassed 99 points to easily win the morning's proceedings. Second-placed Mark Warren, Bryan Robinson, Len Bohnen and Graham Findlay were all of 6 points in arrears on 93. Despite some noble efforts by Jimmy van Rensburg, his team of John Dell, Neil Loundar and Paul Fryer failed to impress, carding just 79 points and reluctantly taking control of the only trophy on offer, the dreaded Hammer en Sukkel. Colin Mavuso shot the best round of the morning, a superb 76. Both Martin Weaver and Ray Hicks shot excellent nett 66s with other good nett scores being recorded by Eugene Erasmus, Mark Warren, Tom Tagg, Steve Kennedy (68), Jimmy van Rensburg, Len Bohnen, Graham Findlay, Dave Kirk, Danny Tarpani, Gerald Churchley, Andy Manson and Peter Reed (69).There were a number of 2-clubs on the par threes: Steve Kennedy, Dale Wisener (6th), John Muggeridge, Ray Hicks (8th), Tom Tagg (11th) and Derick van Harmelen (13th). Friday March 24: The welcome rain meant no golf on Friday.
