Ladies’ Results

April 11: An individual Stableford was the format played and 30 members of the fairer sex turned out to play.

The afternoon's competition was held concomitantly with the second round of the Easter Shield.

Tracey Stanley netted a superb 65 to card 43 points and win the Stableford, beating second-placed Margie Siegers's 40, Margie also netting a fine 68. Gaby Hausman-Tarpani (nett 68) counted out Sandy Fryer (nett 69) on 39 points to take third place.

Pru Peacock won the Easter Shield shooting an aggregate nett 39.5 over the two weeks of the competition.

Kim Gardner nailed the only two-club of the afternoon (eighth) after being closest to the pin on this hole, now sponsored by the Rosehill Driving Range. Kim was also closest on Wimpy's 11th while Theresa Loundar's drive was closest on Top Carpet's sixth.

Ingrid Griffiths was “nearest-for-two” on River Spa's 13th.

The longest drive competitions were held on the 17th hole and struck by Margie and Gaby in the lower and higher handicap categories respectively.

There will be no ladies' competition on April 25 as the Mad Hatter's Tourney will be in progress.

Fresh Stop Port Alfred Mixed

April 15: Having rained all night, Saturday morning dawned cold and chilly with a cutting westerly wind and the forecast of more showers to come.

A large turnout was not expected and in the end just 16 players entered the mixed two-to-count Stableford alliance. The field was drawn into four four-balls, three of which were of mixed gender. Occasional short and light showers did make play a trifle uncomfortable.

Liz Mangham, Pat Halse, Tony Halse and a struggling John Ralph carded 84 points to win the competition, just pipping the 83 scored by Somerset West visitor Jana Acker, Lynn West, Barrie B Brady and Terry Harris.

The bachelor herd of Andy Manson, Eric Segers, Tim and Greg Shanks could have done with the guiding hand of a lady player as they struggled to card just 78 points and receive the weekly Energade drinks from the sponsor.

Nevertheless, Greg shot the lowest nett score of the morning (70). Lynn was closest to the pin on the eighth to take the sponsor's bottle of wine.

KGB Results

Tuesday April 11: The KGB has certainly enjoyed some good turnouts recently and, despite overseas swallows having returned to their European springtime, another good field of 44 were at the club early on Tuesday to be drawn into a two-to-count Stableford alliance in four-balls. A total of 91 points were carded by Gerald Churchley, John Crandon, Brian Hayward and visitor John Cairns to win the competition. The runners-up slot was shared between (1) Neil Loundar, Jimmy van Rensburg, Ray Hicks and Dale Wisener and (2) Hugh Holmes, Colin Mavuso, Brian Reid and Quinton Hogge, both covies scoring 90 points. John Muggeridge, Derek van Harmelen, Chris Niebieszczanski and Wilton Adcock did not fare so well during the morning, carding a miserly 79 points and take charge of the Hamer en Sukkel at the 19th hole.

Two-clubs were holed by Tom Tagg (8th) and Ray Hicks (11th).

Colin shot another great 73 with good nett scores being recorded by Quinton and Dave Curran (65), Brian Hayward, Steve Kennedy (67), Danny Tarpani (68), Gerald Churchley, Eric Segers and Cliff Roberts (69).

Friday April 14: It took the bravest of the brave to play golf on Friday morning and face the gale force, chilly westerly winds sweeping the course. Yet 18 players did turn out to be drawn into six three-balls and play a two-to-count Stableford alliance.

A mere 80 points was sufficient to win the morning’s proceedings, the very amount carded by Len Bohnen, Mike Beaumont and Graham Findlay. The 76 points scored by Tim Anderson, Johny Johnston and Heinz Czepluch proved to be enough to take the runners-up slot.

Mike Dobbs, Andy Barnes and Martin Lambrechts could only accumulate 69 points to come bottom of the list and be presented with the infamous Hamer en Sukkel trophy at the 19th hole.

Despite the conditions, Graham Findlay netted a fine 67, the only round begging special mention. There were no two-clubs.
