LADIES’ RESULTS

April 18: A pleasant afternoon for golf saw just 20 players turn out for a better-ball Stableford. Maureen McGarvie and Gaby Hausman-Tarpani scored 48 points to win the afternoon’s procedures. They were just one point to the fore of runners-up Andrea Key and Bridget McNellis' 47. Ronel Hough struck the longest drive on the 18th for those with a handicap of 21 or under and Lizzie Lambrechts did the same for those with handicaps of 22 or over. Gaby's drive was closest to the pin on the 13th and ended up sinking her ball for a two-club. Gaby was also closest to the pin on Top Carpets' 6th. Andrea made a birdie on the eighth. Maureen’s drive was nearest the pin on the eighth and Andrea's on Wimpy's 11th. The competitio­n on May 2 will be the monthly Medal sponsored by Pick n Pay.

FRESH STOP PORT ALFRED MIXED

April 22: The benign conditions continued into Saturday morning and it was disappoint­ing to see only 24 players turn out for the mixed two-to-count Stableford alliance. The field was drawn into six mixed gender four-balls. Carol Lee, Brian Reid, Danny and Gaby Tarpani carded 91 points to win the competitio­n. Eric Segers, Bryan Robinson, Pogs and Bruce Smith were just two points in arrears on 89 to take the runners-up slot. The weekly rejuvenati­ng energy drinks supplied by the sponsor were handed to bottom of the points list Wian van Aswegen, Fanie Smit, Sonia Reynolds and Lizzie Lambrechts (78). Glynnis Renecle and Bryan Robinson both made birdies on the par three 8th, with Glynnis winning the bottle of wine on offer for being closest to the pin on this hole. Brian (68), Carol and Eric (69) shot the lowest nett rounds of the day.

KGB RESULTS

Tuesday April 18: Pleasant weather conditions presented themselves to all of 45 players who turned out to play the usual two-to-count Stableford on Tuesday morning. The three-ball of Adrian White, Andrew White and Hugh Holmes won the day with 88 + 5 = 93 points. They were way ahead of runners-up Roy de Wet, Philip van der Byl, David Groenewald and Paul Fryer who recorded 87 points. Braam Coetzee, Bryan Robinson, John Dell and Heinz Czepluch had a somewhat less successful morning managing to score only 75 points, the consequenc­e of which was sharing the dreaded Hamer en Sukkel trophy at the 19th hole. Colin Mavuso shot a great 71 to nett 70 and made birdie on the eighth. Two-clubs were also sunk by Johny Johnston (sixth) and Derek van Harmelen (13th). Good nett scores were recorded by Philip, Adrian (67), Danny Tarpani, Hugh and Eugene Erasmus (69).

Friday April 21: Another great morning for golf saw 38 players drawn into eight four-balls and two three-balls in a two-to-count Stableford alliance. Scores did not reflect the benign conditions and in the end three covies tied for first place with a modest 89 points, namely (1) Brian Hayward, Graham Findlay, Lizzie Mangham and James Weisters, (2) Peter Sinclair, Andy White, David Groenewald and Eric Segers and lastly (3) Terry Harris, Johny Johnston, John Dell and Derick van Harmelen. Bottom of the points list and receivers of the dreaded Hamer en Sukkel were Chris Niebieszcz­anski, Wilton Adcock, Neil and Theresa Loundar with 82. Two clubs were holed by James (eighth) and John Muggeridge (11th). The best nett rounds of the day were shot by Terry Harris (64), Brian Hayward (65), Chris Niebieszcz­anski (67), Graham Findlay (68), David Groenewald, Martin Lambrechts and Rosie Calmeyer-Leach (69).
