WHILE Mother’s Day should be an everyday occasion, we get a chance to honour our favourite ladies on Sunday.

Take a look at our local businesses and some of their specials, what could be better than a local market with plenty of fine quality items to purchase? The Crafter’s Corner special Mother’s Day market will take place at the Girl Guide Hall on Saturday, from 9am till 1pm. Treat your mom to a lovely breakfast of cake and tea, and let her choose a very special gift from crafters. There will also be a lucky draw for a lucky lady as well.

Take a trip into the country and visit Kingston Farm this Mother’s Day for an unforgetta­ble day out. Their menu, available on their Facebook page, consists of a three-course lunch for R250. Please call to book your place at the table. A two-course menu for children under 12 is available at half price.

Kingston Farm has been in the Eat Out Top 500 restaurant­s in South Africa for three years running and is one of the best eateries in the area.

The Fig & Daisy Coffee Shop and Country Store is one of Bathurst’s hidden gems and a must-see if you’ve never been before, offering a unique experience with the restaurant, upcycled furniture, farm-style jams, pickles, chutneys, biscuits, handmade jewellery, gifts, crafts and a selection of art.

You will find it all inside the spacious barn style shop with a large deck outside, nestled under three massive indigenous trees with beautiful country views.

On the menu is breakfasts, superb coffee, teas, freshlybak­ed scones and cakes, a variety of lunches including burgers, chicken wraps, and home-baked pies, quiche and salads.

Kawayan also offers Wednesday specials which is a cup of hot chocolate, latté or cappuccino and a slice of decadent brownie. For pensioners only, there is a 10% discount on all foods from the kitchen.

Try out the new menu items, such as dim sum, with vegetarian, pork, chicken or beef, served with a green salad. Kawayan also offers a variety of fresh spring rolls made with rice wrap, including Vietnamese style, Mexican style, Mediterran­ean style, Hawaiian style and Thai style.

Penny Farthing Café and Bistro is where you will find a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere alongside Port Alfred’s Duck Pond. It is located at the Anchorage Mall and offers a variety of coffees, fresh delicious cakes and is also fully licenced.

Mom will enjoy a great time enjoying the ambiance as she pores over the extensive menu, while taking in the beautiful scenery in a tranquil environmen­t. Make mom’s day one to remember, with a lunch menu special that includes minestrone soup and a yellowtail and phyllo bake, or chicken cordon-bleu served with veggies. There is also a cheesecake dessert and complement­ary house win or cappuccino for just R150.

Café Reset a quiet, whimsical and relaxing little hide-away is situated in a charming open-air courtyard behind one of Port Alfred’s most historical buildings. Café Reset is open for breakfast, brunch and lunch and serves up glorious dishes made with love and a passion for food and ingredient­s.

Louise Hopkins recently bought the restaurant and was more than delighted to settle in Port Alfred after travelling around South Africa, Africa – and internatio­nally for many years.

Brunch and lunch dishes include gourmet tramezini’s, lasagne, fresh and tasty chicken salads, chicken cordon bleu, quiche and a yummy range of quick and easy as well as big brekkie’s.

Café Reset serves an incredible roasted coffee from Hamburg where a specialist roaster brews a specialise­d blend called “Garvey”.

Having tasted and experience­d lots of Zimbabwean, Argentinia­n, central and southern African flavours as well as spice and flavours from Morocco, India and other areas, Hopkins is keen on fusing her favourites with traditiona­l flavour portfolios. Open for business weekly from 8.30am-5pm, Hopkins is adding Friday night sundowners as a permanent fixture for Café Reset. Keep an eye out for specials on Facebook.
