The lowest nett score of the day would also win the Marge Parish trophy.

The winner of the Silver Division and the Marge Parish trophy was Ronel Hough shooting a nett 69. Yvonne Hill came home second on nett 70. The Bronze Division was won by Bridget McNellis with nett 70. Runner-up Jane Bladen counted out Sue Roll into third, both players on nett 72.

The concomitant putting competitions held every Monthly Medal were won by Lizzie Lambrechts in the Bronze Division and shared by Yvonne Hill and Glynnis Renecle in the Silver Division, all three players putting just 31 times over 18 holes.

There were only two two-clubs, Shirley Heny holing out her birdie on the sixth and Margie Siegers on the long par three 13th.

Margie’s drive was also closest to the pin on this hole, sponsored by River-Spa, as was Bridget’s on Top Carpets’ sixth, Wendy Counihan’s on Rosehill Driving Range’s eighth and Dee Jones-Phillipson’s on Wimpy’s 11th.

The longest drives on the ninth were driven by sisters Margie Siegers and Dee JonesPhillipson in the lower and higher handicap sections respectively. All members of the section please note the Club Championships will be held on the weekend of May 15 and 16. Fresh Stop Port Alfred Mixed

May 6: The forecast and threat of drizzle was probably the reason for a poor turnout of just 17 players for Saturday’s two-to-count Stableford mixed alliance sponsored by Fresh Stop.

As it was, the weather behaved itself and good golfing conditions prevailed.

Dee Jones-Phillipson, Barrie Brady, Pogs and Bruce Smith carded 91 points to win the competition with Shirley Heny, Yvonne and Rick Hill coming home second with 83 + 5 = 88 points. The lowest score was recorded by Lynn West, Lizzie Lambrechts, Martin Lamb and Fanie Smit, who received conciliatory energy drinks by way of compensation from the sponsors.

Lizzie Lambrechts won the sponsor’s bottle of wine for being closest to the pin on the eighth.

Glynnis Renecle had a great day by making birdies on both the par three sixth and eighth, while Bruce Smith made a two-club on the 11th.

Glynnis and Rick both netted fine 67s and Pogs would have been pleased with her nett 69. KGB RESULTS

Tuesday May 2: Pleasant weather conditions on Tuesday morning saw 35 players turn out to be drawn into eight four-balls and one three-ball in the usual two-to-count Stableford alliance.

A massive 101 points was recorded by Graham Findlay, John Dell, Bryan Robinson and Tom Tagg to win the morning’s proceedings. Philip van der Byl, Johan Potgieter, Bryan Connack and Rosie Calmeyer-Leach came home second with 93 points.

The pain of receiving the Hamer en Sukkel trophy at the 19th hole for the lowest score of the morning went to Braam Coetzee, Kevin Reid, Barrie B Brady and Johny Johnston carding a lowly 81 points.

Despite being in the losing team, Barrie holed the only two-club of the morning, sinking his birdie on the 11th.

Colin Mavuso shot an excellent two-under par 70 to nett a fine 69.

Other good nett scores were made by Bryan Robinson (67), John Muggeridge, Gerald Churchley, Ray Hicks, Dale Wisener (68), Heinz Czepluch, John Dell and Tom Tagg (69).

Friday May 5: Great weather conditions got 39 players out of bed for Friday’s KGB two-tocount Stableford alliance. The field was drawn into nine fourballs and one three-ball.

Three covies carded 87 points to share the winners’ spot, namely (1) Wilton Adcock, Chris Niebieszczanski, Cecil Grobler and John Muggeridge, (2) Andy Manson, Arnie Schultz, Neil and Theresa Loundar and (3) Barrie Brady, David Groenewald, Johan Potgieter and Dave Curran. At the other end of the points list, Martin Lambrechts, Eugene Erasmus, Brian Reid and John Dell scooped the much to be avoided Hamer en Sukkel trophy for the lowest score with just 81 points.

Amazingly there were no nett scores under 70 and only Neil managed to sink a two-club (eighth).
