Fresh Stop Port Alfred Mixed

May 27: Near gale force westerly winds and a dark, chilly morning limited the number of players willing to face the elements on Saturday morning. In the end just 18 players turned out for the draw in the usual two-to-count Stableford in mixed three- and four-ball covies. The bachelor herd of Andy Manson, Eric Segers, Tim and Greg Shanks won the competition leaving the rest of the field in shreds as they carded a worthy 90 points, a superb score allowing for the inclement conditions. In fact second placed Heather van Harmelen, Maureen and Donald McGarvie were all of eight points in arrears on 77 + 5 = 82. Bottom of the point’s list visitor Saskia Homoet, Gesa Mackeprang, Dee Jones-Phillipson and Terry Harris on 77 were the recipients of the customary Energy drinks courtesy of Fresh Stop. Greg Shanks holed the only two-club of the morning (eighth) and shot the best nett score (67). Saskia won the sponsor’s bottle of wine for being closest to the pin on the eighth.
