Don’t trust Duck Pond’s car washing

- ELIZABETH FORD HUGH HOLMES, CHAIRMAN PORT ALFRED BRANCH OF SAAFA

I WOULD like to warn the public of the parking attendant who offers to wash cars at the Duck Pond.

He claims he uses water from the rank but we witnessed him scoop water out from the pond (which is salty) and wash the cars.

He charges as little as R40 for a wash but one considers the damage to a vehicle using salt water. It’s probably better to take your vehicle to a legitimate car wash. THE South African Air Force Association (Saafa) are once again holding their annual memorial service at the wall of remembrance at 43 Air School to honour those who gave their lives in World War 2 and Korea, as well as the Bush War, and also those who passed to higher service more recently.

The Port Alfred Branch of Saafa was formed 31 years ago in 1986 by Major General Tom Cockbain, who was the personal pilot of General Jan Smuts during World War 2 and was also the “father” of radar in the South African Air Force.

It is fitting that we remember these people – both men and women – who selflessly offered their lives for freedom.

The branch has served Port Alfred all those years and I am happy to say they are a vibrant, active branch with a membership of 106 members who meet monthly to enjoy fellowship and assist in helping the needy.

All are welcome to attend the service which commences at 11am this Sunday at the 43 Air School.
