May 30: The berg winds blew on Tuesday afternoon yielding uncomfortably hot weather. Twenty players turned out to play a better-ball Stableford sponsored by the Ocean Basket. Three teams carded 44 points, Yvonne Hill and Bettine Hattingh counting out firstly Sue Roll and Maureen McGarvie into second place and then Pogs Smith and Gift Wallace into third. Pogs and Lynette Harbrecht won the longest drive competitions on the 15th in the lower and higher handicap sections respectively. Glynnis Renecle's drive was closest to the hole on Top Carpet's 6th where she went on to make a birdie. Joy Altson was nearest on Rosehill Driving Range's eighth. Yvonne Hill had an enjoyable day on the par threes by being closest to the pin on the Wimpy's 11th and “nearest-for-two” on River Spa's 13th. Sue, Sonia Reynolds and Lynette Harbrecht all enjoyed better than average rounds by shooting nett 69. The competition on June 13 will be an Individual Stableford in the first round of the Sanlam Cancer Challenge. Fresh Stop Port Alfred Mixed June 3: It was more like summer on Saturday morning as berg winds drove the temperature up into the lower thirties. Nevertheless, 18 players teed off in mixed threeand four-ball covies to play a two-to-count Stableford alliance ahead of the club championships. The conditions seemed to have mixed results for the field, some enjoying them and others lumbering under the sun. Carol Lee, Rob Turner, Margie and Brian Reid relished the warmth of the sun by putting 95 points on their card to easily win the competition. Runners-up Andy Manson, Eric Lindsay, Shirley Heny and Lynette Harbrecht came home second on an excellent 91. Eighty points (75 + 5) were all that Brian Robinson, Sandy Fryer and Maureen McGarvie could muster and they ended up with the traditional recuperation energy drinks supplied by the sponsor. Rob sunk the only two-club of the morning (11th) and also netted the best individual round (67). Kevin Maree and Brian Reid both shot nett 68. Glynnis Renecle won Fresh Stop's bottle of wine for being closest to the pin on the eighth. KGB Results
