Lions donate 100 meals for 100 years

CELEBRATIN­G 100 years of service worldwide is Lions Club internatio­nal with its 14 million members who are focused on helping to uplift and service those in need.

Lions in South Africa have been going for 60 years.

The actual centenary date was June 7 and clubs across the globe were challenged to carry out a service project incorporat­ing “100” between June 7 -10.

The Port Alfred Lions Club embraced the opportunit­y to be of service and decided their “100” project in celebratin­g the significan­t legacy of Lions Club Internatio­nal would be by sponsoring, cooking and serving 100 meals of fish and chips to elderly folk.

Early last Saturday morning, Port Alfred Lions members visited Damant Lodge where freshly fried fish and chips were served to the residents. The Lions then moved to Sunset Park Moths cottages, where they served more meals to happy and grateful residents.

“We thank the community of Port Alfred for their continued support which enables us to assist those in need. Long may this partnershi­p continue,” said Norman Elliot, president of Port Alfred Lions Club.

“It’s about lending a hand, we try help our fellow man,” Lion Rob Brunette said.

“Don’t feel shy to ask a Lion for help. Lions Clubs are very involved with helping and bringing relief to those in Knysna with the problems people have there. Let’s help our fellow man. You can phone any one of us at any time,” Brunette said.

Past district chairman Mike Newlands made a toast to Lions Club Internatio­nal. “It’s a wonderful organisati­on we are proud of,” he said.

With regards to the “Bright Sight” project adopted by the Lions Club, spectacles sponsored by DM Radue were donated to two residents of Sunset Park.
