Tablers back with 101 Gala for charity

- MEGAN PRETORIUS

ROUND Table 177 Port Alfred will be holding their second 101 Gala dinner and dance at the Royal St Andrews Hotel and they aim to give back even more than they did last year.

There are only 101 tickets available for the event. Last year they were able to raise R10 000 for Sunshine Coast Hospice and hope to raise R20 000 this year.

Round Table hope to get more sponsors this year so more items can be donated for the auction. This is one of the many events that they do throughout the year to raise money for the community.

In the past they have resurfaced tennis courts for Port Alfred High School, as well as built a classroom for the junior primary.

Last year, their annual Junior Golf Day was able to raise R9 000 to go towards junior golf. Their next Junior Golf Day fundraiser will be on June 16 at the Royal Port Alfred Golf Club, starting at 8am.

In September last year, they also hosted a Rowing Regatta dinner for the student rowers from various universities which took part in the annual Boat Races. This will be hosted again in September this year.

Earlier this month, Round Table brought back the ’80s with a fundraiser for the Port Alfred indoor pool to help it get back on its feet.

In recent weeks, Tablers have been helping collect money and goods for the people who suffered due to the disastrous Knysna fires. In association with Harcourts they have been able to raise R12 000 to give to the George Round Table.

They sent three bakkie loads, as well as three trailer loads, of goods to take through. In total, the Eastern Cape Round Tables have been able to raise R50 000, of which ß500 (R7 153) were donated from the Round Table 177 Bad Kreuznach in Germany.

Their efforts to give back to the community continue as they stick to their motto of “adopt, adapt and improve”.

Their annual 101 Gala will allow them to keep up their reputation of helping those in need while still giving the community of Port Alfred an excuse to don their best evening wear and enjoy an night of socialising and auctioning.
