PAHS keeps in touch with one-stop information portal

-

PORT Alfred High School recently invested in a state-of-the art app called the D6 Communicator, which is South Africa’s most popular method of digitally communicating with parents and pupils.

There are currently 282 000 desktop and 435000 cellphone users of D6 countrywide.

“The impact this system will have on our school is going to be far-reaching in that it will save time, money and increase the ‘hit rate’ in terms of getting messages to the intended recipients ... Not to mention, save trees as we will hopefully move away from paper notices being sent home via homework books,” principal Clive Pearson said.

Realising that the success of the system depends on ensuring that as many parents and pupils as possible download the app, PAHS teamed up with local supermarket Rosehill SUPERSPAR and ran a highly successful D6 Doughnut Day. The date selected was June 15 to coincide with Youth Day.

The campaign was launched at school assembly. Every pupil who successfully convinced a parent to download the app or downloaded it onto their own device, was rewarded with a deliciously fresh doughnut sponsored by Rosehill SUPERSPAR.

“The D6 is an innovative way of communicating with pupils and their parents with numerous benefits and savings for all parties concerned. As a local business, we jumped at the opportunity to be associated this progressive project,” Rosehill SUPERSPAR store manager Gavin Tessendorf said.

“The campaign resulted in a 44% download,” PAHS marketing manager Laura Mileham said. The D6 Communicator keeps parents up to date with what’s happening at school. It updates calendar events automatically and has a range of useful contact links and documents. The aim is to be a one-stop information portal for everything you need to know related to your child’s school.

“One of its key features is the alert function which we find very useful when arrangements, especially sport, change unexpectedly,” Mileham said.

The app is free of charge and can be downloaded on your mobile from the App or Play Store. For desktop devices, visit .
