Braving the rain for Rock and Surf
THE eighth round of the Claude Pittaway Round Robin, sponsored by Hillscapes, took place last Saturday in some not-so-kind weather conditions.
It poured with rain for the morning, drenching those anglers who braved the weather. There was only a 35% turnout from Port Alfred Rock and Surf members for the day, with a total of 32 fish being caught and a total weight of 40kg recorded.
“With this been said we had a 100% release rate yet again and I must congratulate the anglers on this. We also caught seven different species on the day,” Rock and Surf chairman Gary du Randt said.
The following achievements were recognised:
Biggest in the species: bronze bream – 4.1kg Terry Stewart; blacktail – 1.3kg Karen Kemp; poenskop – 1.3kg Ross Bartlett; white musselcracker – 2.5kg Roger Coates; zebra – 1.3kg Darian Keeton; mullet – 0.3kg Ben Keeton; blue-eyed JB – 1.5kg Maudia Wright
The top International Game Fishing Association team (weight converted to points) for the day: In first place was Team 6 consisting of Dave Kemp, Karen Kemp, Ross Bartlett and Ben Keeton, on 147 points; in second place on 98 points was Team 5 consisting of Darian Keeton, Josie Hillier, Brian Wright and Russell Dales; and in third place on 70 points was Team 1 consisting of Paul Knight, Terry Stewart, Don Murray and Bruce Amos.
The sealed weight was won by Roger Coates for his 2.5kg white musselcracker. Terry Stewart walked away with the Buckland’s reserve heaviest fish released, The Paint Factory catch of the day went to Maudia Wright for her Blue-eyed JB. The best U21 was Ross Bartlett with 4kg of fish.
After prize-giving, the members who attended, enjoyed a braai, as well as a nice chat around the fire.
