A blustery and chilly wind made playing conditions quite unpleasant for the 20 women who teed off in a bogus bogey competition playing for the Atherstone Cup. Shirley Heny netted a fine 69 to card +3 and edge past runner-up Dee Jones-Phillipson on +2. Helen Lockyear’s +1 counted out Doreen Lumsden to snatch third place. Shirley also holed the only two-club of the day (sixth). Shirley’s great afternoon also saw her drive closest to the pin on Top Carpet’s sixth. Margie Reid was closest on Rosehill Driving Range’s eighth and Doreen Lumsden on Wimpy’s 11th. Wendy Counihan was “nearest-for-two” on River Spa’s 13th. The longest drive competition was held on the 16th fairway. Ingrid Griffiths’ drive went furthest for those with lower handicaps and Sandy Fryer once again did the same for those whose handicaps are of a more generous nature.
