cruise to an easy victory. But Fox had other ideas and fought back to be only two shots behind on 16-14.

At this stage, Fox was holding four shots, but Krige managed to save the situation when he drew the shot with his last bowl.

A few ends later, Fox was holding three and again Krige won the end with his last bowl. Krige then pulled out all the stops to end up with a comfortable 21-14 victory.

The competition was keenly contested and it was pleasing to see the less-experienced players entering and holding their own.

Earlier in the week, 13 players braved the foul weather to play in the Kenny’s Pub-sponsored competition. The conditions became so unpleasant that it was agreed to play a shortened version of the game.

This was won by Keith Kolesky and his team of Roger Purdon, Lawrie May and Claire Bell.

A good field turned out in fine weather on Saturday afternoon with the Snowball ending up in a roll-over. Duties for next week September 4 to 10: Rolling – Siegie Rohrs, Marking – Peter Ford and Ivo Chunnett, Tabs money – Pee Wee Tomlinson, Bar – Linda and Roy Reynolds.

Kenton Bowling Club

Club management have to sadly announce that for personal reasons our president Roy Wilkins has had to resign from this position. Members and staff hope and pray that matters will improve in the near future for him and his family. His committee efforts for the club will be greatly missed.

The club has now arranged a special general meeting after bowls on Wednesday September 13. Nominations for president, vice president and secretary are on the main notice board and will close on September 6.

We all welcome back from their holiday in Australia, Richard and Melise Beresford. Very nice, Richard, to have you join us on the greens again.

Last week’s play suffered due to the windy, wet and cold weather. However, well done to the 16 league men’s players who turned out for last Thursday’s practice. However, there were no Tabs-in bowlers that day.

Last weekend also saw the 19th Ladies’ Inter-Sub District Bowling Tournament hosted by Eastern Areas (EA) being played at Albany BC. Six districts – Ciskei, our own EA, East London, Frontier, Midlands and North Eastern Districts (NED) – entered two or three teams each.

EA had three composite teams entered, playing four games of 21 ends, scoring two points for a win.

There were some really good bowls played. Greens were very good running at 13 seconds, weather was lovely, and there were flip boards for spectators.

The final winners were East London with an average of five points and a shot profit of 12, second was NED also with five points but a profit of 4.5, and EA came third with 4.33 points, actually winning two, losing one and peeling the last game 24-all.

Yesterday, we played the Doris Ford at the PABC and the Les Clarke at Kenton. Results will be given on our respective notice boards.

This weekend, Rob Croly, Bill Bedford and Brian Aldag represent our club in the final of the EP Men's Trips at Somerset East BC. We wish them the very best.

All Tabs-in players remember that this coming Saturday we have our monthly social competition and play now starts at 2pm. The hatch doors close at 1.55pm.

Last Friday night’s draw worth R600 was lost by Roxy, so tomorrow night it will be worth R700. Duties for week September 4 to 10: Tabs-in – Rob Croly, Bar – Mick Carle and John Homewood.

Port Alfred Bowling and Croquet Club

The Ladies’ Inter-Regional played at Albany Bowling Club last weekend was won by East London and Districts.

Jane Armitage, Maureen Heale, Marlene Jacobs and Adele Wood were placed second in the individual team event. Well done, ladies. Congratulations to Albany on a well-run competition.

The Port Alfred Ladies’ Classic will be played on September 6 and 7 when we host teams from all over the Eastern Province region. We wish them all good bowling.

The Radue Trips, played last Saturday, was won by Dallas Cowie, Lynton Perry and Mike Pfotenhauer. Well done.

Our birthday night will be held after bowls on Tuesday September 12. Please remember to bring a plate of snacks. Duties for the week ending September 9: Tabs – Rory Mason-Jones and Beryl Barnard, Bar – Noel Heale, Martin Leonard and Trevor Collett, Ironing – Colin Barnard.
