Shocked by tent for sangomas

- FRANK SHORT

I WAS amazed – and somewhat shocked – when I saw a large tent pitched on the beach at East Beach car park last Wednesday.

On Friday, it was still there. It apparently was set up for an initiation ceremony for sangomas. They were given permission by our municipality to do this.

The point is, there is a big notice at the entrance to the car park, erected by the same municipality, stating NO CAMPING ON THE BEACH. We also know that the drinking of alcohol is prohibited in public places, which the municipality, and the police, tend to overlook.

Are there two sets of laws operating in this town?

In short, get your act together councillors.
