On the last Tuesday of the month, we played the Megabucks competition with a good turnout and Keith Kolesky’s team of Don Kelly and Rob Sandilands defeated Jacques Krige’s team by a full house 10 points and a 10-shot profit.

The runner-up was Mike Long’s team of fours after Rod Gradwell’s team had managed to share the first skin with the final score 9 points to 1 and a positive shot profit of 5. So the “big bucks” were handed over to the Kolesky team.

On Thursday, there was another good turnout for bowls in blustery weather. We had a few one-sided games with winner Lee Botma’s team of trips, Ronnie Smith and Bryan Burger, defeating Don Armstrong with a full house 10 points and a big shot profit.

The runner-up was Keith Kolesky’s trip who defeated Michael van der Sandt’s trip also by a full house 10 points with just a 2-shot profit less. In this competition there is only one winner who takes home the “big bucks”.

In a third game we had a 9 pointer where the first skin was shared with the scores being very close.

On Saturday, we played our Guido’s-sponsored competition with a good turnout which gives us a total of about 120 pairs of feet over the greens for the week (this includes bounce on Friday afternoons).

Mike Beaumont’s team of Don Kelly and Rob Walker were in devastating form to take out Mike Tomlinson’s team of trips by 2 points and a huge shot profit (too embarrassed to mention).

Jacques Krige’s team were also in good form to defeat Pieter Stegman’s team for the runners-up position. Mike Beaumont was presented with the Guido’s vouchers while the remaining four games were pretty evenly matched. We welcomed Jonty and Judy Alexander to bowls, this being Judy’s first outing on the bowling green since moving to Bathurst.

We were rooting for our ladies’ team of trips – Jackie Kriel, Judy Hunter and Megan Kriel, as well as Jane Armitage’s PA team who played in the EP Trips final in Somerset East last weekend. Kriel won one of her three games over the weekend and Armitage won two of her games. The final was contested by the teams from Western Suburbs and the Woods but at this stage I do not have a result. You will have seen it in the Herald on Wednesday morning. Our two EA men’s teams from Kenton and Albany did not have a very successful campaign over the weekend.

The club AGM takes place on Friday September 15 at 6pm in the clubhouse.

Duties for week September 11 to 17: Greens – (Roll) Michael van der Sandt, (Mark) Keith Kolesky and Rod Allin, Tabs – (Cash) Gill Turner, Bar – Gill Turner and Tony Brown.
