Knife-wielding men cause scare at school

THERE was a scare at Kuyasa Combined School in Nemato on Monday morning when three men walked into the school premises armed with knives.

A teacher called MultiSecur­ity control room, which in turn alerted their response officers and the police.

They caught one of the knife-wielding men, but no case was opened.

A Quantum taxi ran over a child in Runeli Drive on Monday afternoon. A MultiSecur­ity response officer who saw the incident called his control room, which tried to contact the state ambulance on both their numbers, but they did not answer.

Gardmed ambulance responded and took the child to the Port Alfred Hospital.

Kowie Tobacco, which has been targeted by armed robbers in the past, called MultiSecur­ity on Monday evening as they were concerned about a suspicious vehicle at the premises. A response officer made contact with the people in the vehicle and reported they were under the influence of alcohol. The Ford Figo they were driving was a government vehicle with Department of Labour insignia. The response officer told them to leave the premises and they left.

There was a break-in at a home in George Street on Monday evening. MultiSecur­ity responded to a call from the owner.

The burglars had gained entry by bending the burglar bars and forcing open a window to the main bedroom. They stole a computer monitor, flat screen TV, DVD player and Samsung phone.

A MultiSecur­ity response officer reported that they found some of the stolen goods in a nearby open field.

Responding to an alarm in Park Road on Saturday morning, MultiSecur­ity found a flat had been broken into.

They could not contact the SAPS by phone or radio, but when a response officer went to the police station, the police said they had a problem with their phone lines.

After the police still did not attend the scene, the client decided to go to the police station to open a case. A shop in Biscay Road was broken into last Friday morning. The burglars gained entry through the back toilet and climbed onto the roof and made a hole to get into the shop.

The burglars’ progress was foiled as a double garage door separates the two sections of the shop. Nothing was stolen. Initially the client did not want to involve the SAPS, but when they found a hammer the burglars had left behind in the toilet, he summoned the police.

Last Wednesday afternoon, MultiSecur­ity responded to a house alarm in Putt Road and reported a break-in. The burglar(s) had gained entry to the premises through the back palisade fence, forced open a burglar gate and the garage door.

However, the burglar(s) fled empty-handed.

There was an attempted break-in at a home in West Street last Friday evening. MultiSecur­ity responded to an alarm and found a glass sliding door at the back of the house had been smashed.

But the burglar(s) did not gain entry to the premises and nothing was taken. Neverthele­ss, a guard was needed at the premises because of the broken sliding door.

An Albany Road home was broken into last Friday night and foodstuffs stolen.

Though not their client, MultiSecur­ity responded when asked to by the Ndlambe fire department. A hangar at the Aero Park was broken into in the early hours of Saturday morning. A Hi-Tec guard called MultiSecur­ity, who noticed the hangar had a Sky Alarms board on it. Sky Alarms said their client had suspended monitoring of his premises.

The burglar had broken the office window to gain entry. The client came to look at the premises and cancelled a request for the police. Nemato Spar reported a case of shopliftin­g last Saturday evening.

MultiSecur­ity and the police responded. They were able to identify the alleged thief, who stole three cans of deodorant.

The premises of the old Snorting Grunter were vandalised last weekend.

MultiSecur­ity said the front door was damaged and there was no electricit­y supply. Guido’s has been looking after the premises and the owner said the damage would be fixed.

A Becker Street resident pressed his panic button when he saw an intruder in his garden just after 1pm on Monday.

MultiSecur­ity responded and patrolled the area, but could not find the man, who was described as wearing a light blue top.

A troublesom­e car guard was ejected from the premises of the Port Alfred Ski-boat Club last Wednesday night. MultiSecur­ity responded to a call from the manager.
