- ... what’s happening

Kenton Bowling Club

LAST week we played three major competitions.

On Wednesday October 18 the hat went round for the benefit of Hospice for Breast Cancer Awareness Day.

On that day six visiting teams from Kowie came and played the penultimate men’s Kenton / Kowie game and the ladies’ Bess Tweedie Competition. At the end of play the men’s Kenton / Kowie result was Kenton with 18 points, Kowie 22. For the Bess Tweedie Kenton and Kowie both finished with 10 points.

The next and final games are due to be played away on November 23 so the result will decide the year’s winner. Kenton will have to win all four games to win the years title.

Last Friday we played the Personal Trust sponsored monthly Trips with 18 teams participating. The winners were Patricia Greig with Kevin Bates and Dave Wallace scoring 23 plus 29. Second was Richard Beresford with Hermy Scholtz and Keith Benson with 23 plus 22. The first game was characterised with some high end scores. Patricia had a 6 and Denis Stirk had a 8.

Yesterday (Wednesday) Kenton were away at the Port Alfred Club also playing the penultimate Les Clarke and Ladies Doris Ford Competitions. Results not available when this article was printed. The year’s final games will be played on 6th December 6 at Kenton. Before Wednesday’s game Kenton had 26 points against PA with 14. The ladies’ Doris Ford stood at a tie both with 21 points.

This Saturday and Sunday the Buco Trips will be played at Kowie BC, with the three coastal clubs involved. Two men’s teams and one ladies’ team have been selected for Kenton. Selection is on the board.

The Colleen Timm Ladies’ Final Competition will be played on Saturday November 4. Current score year-to-date is Kenton 8, Kowie 7 and Port Alfred 3 points

The final game of the Kenton sponsored Dias Consultants Jackpot will be played on Wednesday November 1. This is a Tabs-in competition so let’s have a good turnout.

Last Friday night’s attendance draw saw number 49 come out of the drum. It belonged to country member Wynne Daly, who was not present, so tomorrow night the draw will be worth R900. Duties for the week October 23 to 29: Tabs - Ken Nixon, Bar - Bill Bedford and Pippa Swift.
