Rock and Surf anglers in fine fettle

THE fourth round of the Claude Pittaway Round Robin sponsored by Hillscapes took place on January 27 in excellent weather conditions between Cape St Blaze and Kariega Rocks (Kasouga area).

There was a 75% turnout with a total number of 84 fish caught and a record 100% release rate. Some excellent catches were recorded with more than 12 species being caught and measuring a total weight of 97.9kg.

Prize-giving was handled by Rock and Surf chairman Gary du Randt, ably assisted by Russell Warren and Darian Keeton. The biggest species recorded were: kob – Nial Borland 4.4kg, JB – Terry Stewart 1.6kg, poenskop – Mark Pote 5.5kg, zebra – Rodney Yendall 0.7kg, Baardman – Paul Knight 1.6kg, galjoen – Lenard Bodill 0.6kg, shad – Nial Borland 1.3kg, blacktail – Adrian Bezuidenho­ut 1.2kg, spotted grunter – Gary du Randt 0.6kg, catface rockcod – Mark Warren 0.5kg, klipvis – Melissa du Randt 0.3kg, yellow belly rockcod – Adrian Bezuidenho­ut 2.5kg.

The top Internatio­nal Game Fishing Associatio­n team, was T12: Mark Pote, Warren Pote, Arnold Ristow and Anthony Scheepers on 252 points. In second place was T3: Paul Knight, Bruce Amos, Terry Stewart and Rod Yendall on 231; third was T10: Ben Keeton, Ross Bartlett, Murray Keeton and Josh Timm on 183, and fourth was T6: Mark Warren, Roger Coates, Don Fryer and Russell Warren on 148.

The sealed weight was won by Adrian Bezuidenho­ut for his 2.5kg yellow belly rockcod. The Buckland’s Reserve prize for heaviest fish released was won by Mark Pote for his 5.5kg poensie. Best lady angler was Melissa du Randt with a total of 3.1kg caught and fully released. Best junior under-21 was Ben Keeton with a total of 6.7kg caught and released. The catch of the day sponsored by the Paint Factory was won by Mark Pote for catching his 5.5kg poensie.
