Port Alfred Lions in drive to bring water to school

-

WITH the assistance of SPAR and the Ndlambe Fire and Emergency Services, the Port Alfred Lions Club has organised a project to supply clean rain water to Port Alfred Primêre Skool in Station Hill.

This collaboration between a service club, business and a section of a local authority was initiated when Lions were looking for containers to transport water to those affected by the drought.

Craig Theunissen, owner of Rosehill SUPERSPAR, Nemato and Kenton SPARS, donated water from the tanks in the SPAR store. Moving 10000 litres proved a problem until the chief of Fire and Emergency Services, Mervyn Sauls, agreed to provide assistance in the form of a fire truck with a 5 000l tank.

A grateful headmaster, Tommy Scott, received the water when it was delivered to the school. He thanked the parties involved for their commitment to serving the community. The school has several tanks, but, because of the drought, these have run dry, depriving 837 pupils of drinking water when attending classes. Port Alfred Lions wish to thank SPAR and the Ndlambe Fire and Emergency Services for helping Lions to serve the community.

The Lions Club have hired a storage facility to store their equipment and regalia. They are asking members of the public who are contemplating cleaning house, to consider donating any cupboards or shelving which they wish to dispose of, to the club for use in this store.
