Bathurst Show horse section to get new look
IN order to cater for a wider range of riders and horses, the organisers of the province’s premier agricultural show have introduced events more in-line with those featured at other traditional agricultural shows.
This year we welcome the Cape Boereperd Breeders Society, who will be showcasing their horses in both ridden and harness classes on Saturday April 7.
The show jumping classes remain the hub of the action with classes for novices up to the “big guns” who will all be competing over courses designed by Brendau Kok from Mpumalanga.
A mini Derby has been introduced over a long and testing track and takes place in the afternoon of Friday April 6.
The ever exciting and crowd pleasing Puissance or Power Jump, where a single jump increases in height, is at about 4.30pm on Saturday April 7. The Bathurst Championships start at 8am on Sunday April 8.
The showing format has changed to include breed and performance classes, which are less time consuming, great fun to watch and allow more classes to be included. The Little League classes for children under ten are a wonderful opportunity for absolute beginners to take part in Bathurst Show. The featured Farm horse and pony classes are a tribute to all South African farmers who are thanked in this year’s show theme, “Eaten today – thank a farmer”. The fancy dress competition always draws a big entry of riders and they will parade at lunch time on Saturday.
Lots of trophies, rosettes and prizes are on offer and anyone interested in entering will find the schedule and entry forms at
