PAHS golfers still in top form

DURING Monday’s assembly, Port Alfred High School headmaster Clive Pearson congratula­ted Grade 9 pupil Jarryd Harty on being selected to represent Eastern Province and wished him well in the interprovi­ncial golf tournament taking place at Katberg from March 21.

Pearson went on to commend the PAHS A golf team, comprising Harty, Meekah de Sousa, Benji Burger and Jayden Roesstorff, for bringing home bronze medals from the Fynbos Golf Invitation­al Tournament played over the weekend. This is the first time that PAHS has played in the tournament and the team missed out to Framesby for second place by just a few strokes. Grey High School’s A team won the division. The PAHS B golf team, represente­d by Tiaan Labuschagn­e, Luke Erasmus, Luxolo Msesiwe and Hlumelo Matyumza, also acquitted themselves well, finishing sixth in a field of 10 teams. The tournament was played at Eesterivie­r and coach Dr Ian Knott-Craig said the three rounds of golf in two days had been played in a spirit of good sportsmans­hip by numerous Eastern Province high schools team who clearly see

The PAHS boys senior team lost 36 games to nine in their encounter with St Andrew’s College last week Monday, while the U13 boys fared better, winning 40 games to16 against the Kingswood College U13B team at home on Tuesday.

The U15 girls team played against Hoërskool PJ Olivier on Tuesday, narrowly losing by just one game; the final score was 32-31. The U11 girls’ tennis team took on Victoria Primary on Wednesday and lost 14 to 26 games.

The PAHS 1st XI looked promising, with impressive bowling work, at the start of their Pineapple Cricket Tournament campaign against the Rainbows Cricket Club last Saturday. Rainbows were 123 all out in 21.3 Overs (R Linforth 3-17). However, PAHS’s batsmen could only manage 98 runs all out in 33.3 overs. Rainbows won by 25 runs.

The PAHS U13B played against El Shaddai U13A with the latter winning by 21 runs. PAHS scored 51 runs for 6 in 20 overs and El Shaddai replied with 52 for 6 in 14.1 overs.

The PAHS U13A team won their match against the Kingswood College 152 runs for four wickets in their 20 overs with good work by R Baartman (47 off 41 balls) and A Ndinisa (38 off 37 balls). Kingswood put 131 runs on the scoreboard for 5 in 20 overs.

The PAHS U11A team had a busy week playing two matches against Kingswood College and Shaw Park Primary. In their match against Kingswood’s U11B team, PAHS won by 8 wickets; Kingswood 75 in 20 overs (J Labuschagn­e 3 for 3). PAHS’s batsmen scored 76 for 2. The match against Shaw Park ended in a tie with PAHS 90 for 2 in 20 overs (C. Moller 41) and Shaw Park Primary 90 in 20 overs.

In the KFC Mini Cricket Challenge, PAHS’s U9 team played against their Shaw Park counterpar­ts. PAHS won by nine runs. The final score: PAHS 26 to Shaw Park’s 15.

The PAHS School swimmers who travelled to Wriggleswa­de Dam outside Stutterhei­m on Sunday to compete in the Merrifield Mile produced pleasing results: Luke Lemmer (24:27), Kate Tinely (24:54), Saffron Tweedie (28:46), Will Beatt (29:41), Emily Beatt (29:54), Scarlett Tweedie and Reece Coetzer (31:22) and Nicole Jansen (49:50).
