Diaz pigeon season off to flying start with baby auction

-

THE scene is set for what promises to be a great racing pigeon season this year for Diaz One Loft, a national pigeon loft based in Bushman’s River Mouth with an intake of 580 birds.

“We are excited because this is our tenth year as a national loft and we are looking forward to the coming celebrations. This year we will stage 11 races, the 11th added to commemorate our 10 years of racing,” committee chairman Dr Luiz Pedro said.

The season starts with a baby auction on Sunday at the Diaz Country Club on the corner of Alexandria Street and the R72 in Bushman’s. All birds purchased will be entered into the baby race, which will take place during the fourth race of the season, starting from Kokstad. Good prize money can be won and the season lasts until September.

“I would like to invite anyone even remotely interested in pigeons to attend the auction. It is a great way for the public to get involved,” said Pedro. all corners of the country, there will be several social events. The most popular thus far was the Hospice Pigeon Race last year, organised by the Kenton Rotary Club.

“The venue was packed with people dressed up as they would for the Durban July Handicap. Fun bets were placed and all proceeds donated to the hospice in Port Alfred. The Rotary Club’s success has led us to plan more social and charity events in the coming season,” Pedro said.

Sunday’s auction starts at 12 noon and the pigeons can be viewed from 10am. The kitchen and pub will be open for drinks and meals.
