Blues dominate PAHS cross country event

CROSS COUNTRY

Port Alfred High School staged their annual inter-house cross country event between showers of rain last week. The course is laid out on the campus and the winners of each race are as follows:

GIRLS: Open – Anele Ginga, U16 – Tazmin Cannon, U15 – Linethemba Same, U14 – Mia Marais, U13 – Liyabona Xanti, U12 – Linray Hilpert, U11 – Lily Heny and U10 – Lisolethu Mbanmbani.

BOYS: Open – Likholo Sikhola; U16 – Simamkele Mata; U15 – Elam Manana; U14 – Onathando Momono; U13 – Kaine Heny; U12 – Olwethu Landu; U11 – Kamva Mazana and U10 – Yanga Booi.

Hobson House (blue) triumphed, having won the most points in the Junior Girls and Junior Boys division and having secured second place in the Senior Boys’ and Senior Girls’ divisions. Championsh­ips will be held in Cape Town from October 1 to 5 and six PAHS pupils have been selected to represent the 2018 Eastern Province bodyboardi­ng team.

They are Reece Naude, Jordan Faca, Luke Bradfield, Dyllan Palmer, Cameron Nelson and Keagan Botha. Some of the Port Alfred EP bodyboarde­rs require financial assistance to get them to Cape Town. The annual FNB Public Speaking Competitio­n took place on September 4 in the PAHS hall and a wide range of subjects was covered including topics such as “You hold the keys to Success” and “Simple Words are Best”. Luke place and Asisipho Dingile first place.

The juniors held their event on Tuesday and the winners per grade are as follows: Grade 7 – Chani Campbell; Grade 6 – Rachel Phillips and Grade 5 – James Campbell. Bulelani Mkele took the most promising speaker in the grade 4 category. SWIMMING

The PAHS swimmers participat­ed in the second Nelson Mandela Bay A League Gala last weekend and returned with a pleasing set of results: Scarlet Tweedie – 5th and 4th, Saffron Tweedie – 3 x 5th and 3 x 4th, Emily Beatt – 1 x 5th, 2 x 4th, 3 x 3rd, Luke Lemmer – 3 x 3rd, 2 x 2nd, 1 x 1st (50m butterfly), Will Beatt – 1 x 2nd, 6 x 1st (100m backstroke, 50m freestyle, 50m butterfly, 200m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 100m freestyle).
