ick n Pay Port Alfred has come of age as the business celebrates its 21-year anniversar­y this month. Pick n Pay first opened its doors in 1997 and has since grown along with the community and been a part of our lives and our meal times. One of Port Alfred’s favourite longstandi­ng business anchors, Pick n Pay has proved to be more than just an average grocery store.

The family Pick n Pay has a wide selection of quality fresh produce to its customers while growing yearly in the range of services offered. Pick n Pay’s owners Mark Shelton and Jon Campbell look back on the past 21 years and believe the store owes much of its success to the residents of Port Alfred.

“It has been a fantastic journey with many challenges overcome,” said general manager Russell Shelton of the milestone. “I want to thank all of our customers for their support over the years, not just in business, but personally as well”.

Pick n Pay is a family store situated in Heritage Mall and offers customers a wide variety of fresh produce with excellent and friendly service, a top quality butchery and a delectable bakery.

With such a wide selection, customers are spoilt for choice and can expect a festive season with many in-store competitio­ns and promotions running throughout.

Customers are reminded to use or apply for Smart Shopper Cards – if they haven’t already.

With the Smart Shopper Cards a percentage of your purchase is tallied by your card as points. These points are converted back into money and redeemable

Pas a discount off your purchase at any time.

Every Monday is pensioner’s day, and eligible customers are entitled to 5% of their total purchase.

Pick n Pay also offers delivery service whereby customers can have all their shopping delivered to their doorstep.

At Pick n Pay, customers can subscribe to various services offered. It is possible to pay water and electricit­y bills, buy pre-paid electricit­y, airplane tickets, TV licences, pay speeding fines as well as pay DStv accounts.

Pick n Pay prides itself for its support of the local community and goes to vast lengths to uplift and invest in endeavours that are directly related to local enterprise.

Affiliated with the local soup kitchen and often sponsoring local events and initiative­s, Pick n Pay tries its best to lend a helping hand where it can.

During the festive season Pick n Pay will accommodat­e the influx of visitors and holidaymak­ers by extending their trading hours for complete shopping convenienc­e.

Pick n Pay has a large number of employees, each doing their part to ensure that the business functions optimally, though there are some who have been with the company for many years and some who have even been with the local branches since the beginning.

In celebratio­n of their birthday month, Pick n Pay will have in-store specials until the end of November but that is not all – on December 1, the winner of their car competitio­n will be announced. There’s still time to enter and stand a chance to win a Toyota Aygo when you purchase R500 or more worth of groceries. Another competitio­n is also available to customers who spend R100 or more and have the chance to take their pick of either a fridge, television or a washing machine. See in-store for details.
