PAHS hockey girls beat PJ Olivier

The Port Alfred High School first team hockey girls held nothing back as they played with great gusto on Saturday against long-time rivals, Hoërskool PJ Olivier, winning the match 3-1.

The first team rugby boys followed in a similar vein, but lost 17-18 in the dying moments of the match. The PAHS U15 rugby team won their match 36-17.

The PAHS first team netball also played with plenty of heart losing their match against PJ Olivier 41-48. The U16 team also went down with a close score of 7-10 while the lower ranked teams did well with two victories: the U14s 29–3 and the U15s 16-6.

In other rugby fixtures played earlier in the week, the PAHS U13B and the U13A teams won their matches against Port Alfred Primêre while the U9 team lost 5-10.

On the netball courts PAHS junior teams enjoyed a full afternoon of netball against Port Alfred Primêre midweek with the U9s winning 2-0, U10s winning 3-2, the U11s winning 9-2, the U12s winning 7-3 and the U13 team losing 4-7.

Congratula­tions were extended to Abenathi Maneli who has been selected to represent EP Netball and to Tasmyn Cannon who came first in the Kata and second in the Kumite during the EP Karate trials.

Grade 9 pupil Kate Tinley participat­ed in the Jendamark Bell Bouy 2019 Open Water World Tour reputed to be Africa’s toughest 5km Indian Ocean swim over the weekend and was commended on her results. Kate placed 41st overall out of 200 swimmers, 10th woman overall, third in the 0-18 year section and was the only U14 to take part in the event.
