Thursday September 12: LADIES’ RESULTS September 10

Summer arrived on Tuesday with a blisteringly hot afternoon and thankfully a few gentle breezes just moderating the intense heat. Nineteen players fought it out having been organised into 3-balls to play a 2-to-count Stableford alliance sponsored by the Royal St. Andrew’s Camelot Spa.

Heather van Harmelen, Verene Burger and Shirley Heny (pivot) carded 84 points to win the afternoon’s proceedings. They were two points to the fore of Joanne Hilliar, Shirley Heny (pivot) and Wendy Counihan’s 82 points who in turn counted out Ronel Hough, Trish Barwick and Bridget McNellis into third place on the same score.

Nobody holed a 2-club during play and there were no notable individual scores. Nobody hit the greens in one on the par threes: Top Carpet’s 6th, Rosehill Driving Range’s 8th, or Wimpy’s 11th. But Wendy Counihan’s second shot on Kekkel & Kraai’s 13th was closest o the pin.

The longest drive competitions were held on the 7th and struck by Shirley Heny and Joanne Hilliar in the lower and higher handicap sections respectively.

The competition on September 24 will be a better-ball Stableford sponsored by Ocean Basket.

FISHAWAYS PORT ALFRED MIXED

September 14

Friday’s winds had blown themselves out to extinction by the time Saturday morning came along delivering a sunny, cool morning attracting a small group of PAM players. The field was drawn into two mixed 4-balls and one 3-ball to play the usual Stableford alliance with two shots to count.

The combination of Lynette Harbrecht, Barrie Brady, Tim and Greg Shanks dovetailed well to card an impressive 94 points to win the competition easily outstripping runners-up Derek Sinclair, Fanie Smit and Glynnis Renecle’s 83 + 5 = 87 points. All these players were rewarded with Fishaways‘ vouchers. Many thanks to the sponsors for their generosity.

The most golf was played by Dave Hoets, Martin Lambrechts, Len Bohnen and Heather van Harmelen who came home with a not too shabby 82 points.

There were no 2-clubs. The best individual nett rounds were shot by Derek Sinclair (68) and Barrie Brady (89). Lynette Harbrecht’s drive was closet to the pin on the 8th to win the RPAGC’s bottle of wine.
