New cattery and boarding facility celebrated by the Port Alfred SPCA

Wonderful spaces to explore give felines lots to purr about

There were plenty of locals at the opening of the new cattery at the Port Alfred SPCA on Sunday.

The cattery will provide strays and otherwise abandoned animals a temporary home while awaiting adoption by caring families, as well offering as a complete cat boarding facility.

The cattery is beautifully appointed with huge cages where the cats and kittens can explore and socialise with other felines in a safe and secure environment.

Cats are allowed out of their cages daily to enter the main area of the cattery that includes plenty of spaces to explore.

On Sunday, visitors had the opportunity to observe the cats and kittens, which all seemed perfectly at home and friendly towards the young children and adults who visited them.

Sandra Pool, a long-serving SPCA volunteer and a wellknown animal lover, said she was delighted that the new cattery had been opened.

“I have my eye on a couple of the cats here, but I don’t think my husband would be too impressed if I brought them home,” she confessed. SPCA chairperson Derek Kleynhans welcomed everyone and gave a tour of the facilities.

He said the SPCA could now also board cats for residents who were in need of temporary accommodation while they were away on business or on holiday. Pool then visited the boarding side of the cattery, which includes large cages with shelves and scratching posts for the cats’ entertainment and a large open area where the animals can explore and satisfy their natural curiosity.

Anyone wishing to board their feline friends or those who would like to adopt an animal can contact the SPCA’s kennel manager, Forbes Coutts on 046-6241919.
