Port Alfred Lions get to meet the man in charge
Lions district governor Alistair Tuckett is on a trip aiming to meet as many Lions Clubs as possible and introduce his replacement, Leslie Human, before his term of office ends shortly.
Tuckett, who is a game park manager in
Magaliesburg, is a Lion from the Clearwater Cyber Lions Club which meets in cyberspace and has members from all over the country, and internationally.
His district covers the Eastern side of SA, from Limpopo to the Western Cape, and includes a considerable number of Lions Clubs.
Tuckett also wanted to find out what projects the various clubs in his region (410E) were undertaking and to share his knowledge and expertise with the members, and to see where others could assist with skills or equipment.
For example, Lions’ Operation Bright Sight has assisted many schoolchildren with respect to establishing any problems with their vision with the aid of a hand-held ophthalmoscope.
Any problems are recorded so the parents or the school can have their child’s eyes tested properly.
Operation Bright Sight also collects and redistributes old frames that are used to save costs.
“We do a lot of projects world-wide,” Tuckett said.
“I am pleased with the work the Port Alfred Lions have undertaken and their successes.”
Human, who hails from East London, his club being Port Rex Lions, was also keen to learn what was happening in Port Alfred.
He also said the ophthalmoscope device he had acquired that had a far greater range than the one local Lions had used in the past.
“This device can be set to deal with a wide range of ages.
“Everyone can now be tested with this one device,” he said.
He added that the Port Alfred Lions would be using it shortly.
