Port Alfred High School Results ATHLETICS

Port Alfred High School junior athletes participat­ed in the Sarah Baartman meet held on Friday February 21 in Port Elizabeth. The results are as follows: Shanique Hilpert – 4th place U12 shot put

Lara Heny – 4th place U12 high jump

Lily Heny – 4th place U13 1500m

Sikhonathi Booi – 4th place U12 high jump

Stafford Avis – Bronze medal for 3rd place in U13 shot put

Sine Mbece – Silver medal for 2nd in U13 high jump.

Indi Lubelwana – Gold medal for 1st place in U12 high jump.

CRICKET

The PAHS U9A cricket team travelled to Grahamstow­n to play against the Graeme College U9A team. Graeme scored 115 for 5.

Leo Murray was the visitor’s best bowler and took 3 for 16. PAHS only managed 50 for 7.

Quade Bessinger was the top scorer with 16 runs; PAHS lost by 40 runs.

The U11 and U13 games were cancelled because of rain.

DEBATING

The PAHS junior debating team did well to beat Graeme College ’ s junior team on Friday February 21.

Nandiyolis­a Nginda was named best speaker.

The senior team, however, lost narrowly on points to the St Andrew’s College team.

No best speaker was announced.

RUGBY

In a pre-season match against Hangklip’s 1st XV played in Station Hill on Saturday, the PAHS first team lost narrowly with a score of 5-7.

Coach Ryle Murray said it was a situationa­l game with a lot of stop-starts and proved to be a good wake-up call for the players. The first major clash of the season will be played at the annual Graeme College Rugby Day on March 14 in Makhanda.

SWIMMING

It was a busy weekend for the PAHS swimmers, with fixtures on both Saturday and Sunday.

Saffron Tweedie secured a 7th, 8th and 9th place in the Infinity Club Gala held in Port Elizabeth on Friday.

She just missed out on achieving a National Level 3 time.

Her sister, Scarlett Tweedie, received a bronze medal for 3rd place in the 100m breaststro­ke.

Will Beatt, Emily Beatt and Scarlett Tweedie have already qualified for invitation­s to the Level 3 National Champs.

On Saturday, the Tweedie sisters participat­ed in the Sundays River Mile, a premier event where, out of 172 ladies, Saffron placed 22nd and Scarlett placed 40th.

TENNIS

The PAHS mixed U13 tennis team hosted Shaw Park Primary last Monday and won 48 -3.

The U11A boys played against St Andrews Prep in Makhanda on Friday and lost 30-41.

Ziyaad Raman and Ibenati Kondile won both of their games.

The U13B boys took on Kingswood College U13A at home on Friday and lost 14-21.

At the same time, the U13B boys played against St Andrews Prep U13B and also lost by just one game, 17-18.

The senior girls tennis teams hosted the DSG 2nd team and lost in a very close game, 41-5.

The second team lost 25-44 to the DSG 3rd team.

The U15 girls played the DSG U15B team in Makhanda and lost 29-33.

The boys played St Andrews College last week with Jarryd Harty and Jack Botha winning their match, 2 -1.

PAHS, however, lost by 29 to 41 games.
