Veterinary clinic changes hands
Dr Lerey Fourie leaves her practice in ‘excellent’ care
After 32 years as a veterinarian in private practice, and the past 12 years as the principal of the Kowie Veterinary Clinic, Dr LeRey Fourie retired on January 4 this year, and personally assured that the practice would continue to grow and serve the community with excellence.
The clinic was founded by Fourie, who took over a one-man veterinary practice in 2009 located in town, where it remained until she purchased the property on Southwell Road and moved the practice to its current location.
With Fourie’s retirement, Dr Helena Brink takes over as principal of the facility, and her husband Gerhard is the practice manager.
“I would like to say a huge thank you to my two partners, Dr Helena Brink and Dr Jolinde Krüger, as well as the rest of the team of veterinarians, Dr Willemien Jonck and Dr Leon De Bruyn, for their dedication and hard work,” Dr Fourie said.
“And also much appreciation for the receptionists and kennel staff, without their loyal teamwork we would not be able to render this service to the public.”
The Kowie Vet Clinic is fortunate to welcome new veterinarian, Dr Amir Anwary, who joined the clinic at the beginning of

January. Between the five veterinarians, the clinic renders services for domestic dogs and cats to farm animals and game.
The clinic provides first-class animal health care and the facilities include a quarantine section and kennels to house animals for shortterm stays.
“Our short-term aim is to extend the reception area as soon as it is practical to do so,” Fourie said.
“The grounds are large and we need to open up the retail area,” added Gerhard.
While the Brinks transition into their new rolls, Dr Fourie is still a business partner and will continue to help and advise them into the future.
At this time of her retirement Fourie said she wanted to relax and look up at the night sky.
“I am so proud that I have been able to put such a competent and professional team together. I know I will be leaving the clinic in excellent hands.”
