Bowler shines in Novice title

- PETER LEVEY

The undoubted highlight of the week was the wonderful achievement of Lynn West in winning the EP Ladies Novice title last Sunday at Westview Bowling Club in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth).

Lynn won all five of her matches in the sectional playoffs but saved her best for the final where she fought back from being 20-13 down after 21 ends to win the match 21-20 after 25 ends.

Kenton Bowling Club is very proud of her achievement.

Eastern Areas bowlers as a whole shone over the weekend and finished the competition with two gold, two silver and three bronze medalists. An excellent allround performance.

Monday saw the penultimate round of the Business League take place with a slight change to the playing conditions. Due to the shorter daylight, matches were played in two sessions on A green under the floodlights.

The first session got going at 5pm and the second session at about 6.30pm.

A good time was had by all and this Monday will see the final matches being played under the same conditions.

If you haven ’ t been to see a business league game, do yourselves a favour and come and watch the excitement and enthusiasm that develops over the course of a match. It’s great fun.

There will also be prizes awarded after completion of this year’s competition.

Friday saw welcome rain falling over the area and as a result there was no bowls but a few diehards gathered for drinks at the club later in the afternoon.

The only draw that was done was for the PT Lockdown meat draw and once again the lucky winner was Marietjie Copeman.

There is still time for those who have not entered to get your entries in as there are five draws taking place this month.
