Bushmans, Kenton come together for Eden rescues

- STAFF REPORTER

Kenton Asian hosted a wonderful morning fundraiser for Retreat 2 Eden to raise much needed funds yesterday in Bushmans.

We enjoyed coffee tasting with Cherise from Carraro Coffees and delicious snacks provided by the Kenton Asian team. There were some great raffle prizes up for grabs kindly sponsored by Fresh Deli, Ultra Liquors Kenton, Bushman’s River Mud Pie, De Coning Breweries, Afrika Kusini Aroma Day Spa Kenton on Sea, Paws & Claws Kenton and Kenton Asian.

The event was well supported by locals and a total of R2,150 was raised!

Johann Wilhelm, co-founder of Retreat 2 Eden, gave us an overview the haven, the rescues and some of the current projects that they working on.

Johann was accompanied by Trixie, a Retreat 2 Eden rescue a gentle soul so full of love.

Retreat 2 Eden is a registered Non-Profit and nongovernmental organisation based in Southwell on a 43 acre pro-life farm.

Johann and his wife, Lynne, bought the land with their savings in 2013 with their aim of not only taking in the usual waifs, strays and cruelty cases, but to honour dogs who have spent their lives in service.

They currently have nearly 60 rescue dogs, including the retired service dogs, and an array of farm animals that also needed their help, all of which live freely on the property.

Current infrastructure remains a challenge; and this compassionate couple have stretched themselves to the limit, turning just about all of their home over for accommodating the high-needs rescues, storing pallets of dog food, meds and bedding, among other things.

Both the front and rear garden are full to capacity with all the dogs that they can responsibly help.

Retreat 2 Eden's desperate need for infrastructure and desire to care for creation has invigorated them to research innovative techniques to build using ecobricks.

And since then, Retreat 2 Eden has been internationally listed as an Ecobrick Hub at www.gobrik.com/

Also, as nature lovers, the Wilhelms are also busy cutting trails on the farm.

Sustainability is critical and they have some other ideas in the pipeline. Please an eye on their Facebook page for more info on this in the near future.

The demand for dogs needing help is exceeding the good and well-matched homes adopting.

Many of the dogs at Retreat 2 Eden came to them as neglected, frightened, starving or abused dogs, some came to them from homes who did not have the means to look after them, while others came to Retreat 2 Eden as babies with their badly abused, frightened and neglected mothers.

All of them have become part of the Retreat 2 Eden family.

Retreat 2 Eden is just the bridge - their care and love is there for part of their lives when they needed a safe place to call home for just a while - to learn about unconditional love.

Please consider opening your home to Trixie or any of the rescues that are available for adoption.

Home checks and contracts apply. Here is the latest updated post on www.facebook.com/media/set...
