-

The Royal St. Andrews Hotel is home to fine dining and world class facilities and it would be no surprise to find professionalism at its best with the staff of the hotel. The Banqueting Manager of the hotel is Phumlani Mazana.

How do you think the roles of women have changed compared to that of women when you were growing up?

The role of women has changed over generations and looks different in parts of the world. Their most basic and traditional role has been bearing kids, raising them and managing the household. As time progressed, women have become educated and entered the workforce.

The women nowadays perform the role of wife, parent, mother, disciplinarian, teacher, health officer and administrator in the family at the same time. Apart from it, women play a key role in the socio-economic development of society.

How does technology assist you in your line of business?

Technology makes the work easier and allows me to focus on the main parts of the events.

What does your average day consist of?

I start my day with a cup of coffee, then a morning meeting for management, reply to my emails, do quotes and check on my conferences if I have any for the day.

Do you think the 15-year-old version of you would be proud of what you have achieved?

Definitely. I never thought I would be the first black woman to be part of management. It is a big achievement and I must say that I am proud of myself.

What would you say are your strongest personality traits that assist you in running your business?

I delegate, am hands on and ensure good communication between myself and the client/guest and the hotel departments.
