In the beginning

INSIGHTS Pastor Theo Snyman

With the launch of the new James Webb telescope, we are now seeing pictures of galaxies never seen before. Billions of stars that are millions of light years away shining like tiny dots of light in the vastness of outer space. We can now apparently see more than 13 billion years into the past!

All this money, time and effort is an endeavour to discover where, when and how everything began. The Bible is not a scientific Book, but it does have the answers to many of our questions. It is the inspired Word of God and, having withstood the test of time, is simply a proclamation of the truth. INSPIRATIONAL

Genesis 1:16, 17 says, “God made two great lights - the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. God set them in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth.

“Lift your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one, and calls them each by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing” (Isaiah 40:26).

It is inconceivable that a human mind can comprehend just how far a million light years away really is. We may wonder why the universe is so big! Well, the Bible has the answer yet once again.

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard” (Psalms 19:1 – 3).

If ever the origin of all things is reached, the throne of God will be revealed, for…“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1).
