Jesus keeps us calm during the storm
Port Alfred experienced an unusually heavy storm a few weeks ago. The thunder, lightning, wind and rain were not only frightening but damaging to many properties. I have heard of several who slept snuggly and soundly through it all!
The Lord Jesus was also sleeping while His disciples feared for their lives. They went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!” He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm. “Where is your faith?” he asked his disciples. In fear and amazement, they asked one another, “Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him” (Luke 8:24, 25).
Circumstances sometimes places us on a stormy and rocky road, but if we know the Lord Jesus as our personal Saviour and friend, He is always there to help us through. He has promised never to leave nor to forsake us.
The Lord asked His disciples, “Where is your faith?” They did not realise that nothing was impossible for the Man from Galilee. They were amazed when the storm immediately subsided at His word. This Man who was considered to be the son of Joseph and Mary was none other than the Son of the living God!
To deny the reality of the storm is to live in a fool’s paradise. To have peace amid the storm is the reality of true faith in God. He is still able to calm the storm.
Philippians 4:6, 7 says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
