Food, family and fun at Bathurst

- BRYAN SMITH

When it comes to having a day with the family that everyone can enjoy, you don’t need to look further than the Bathurst Agricultural Society’s family fun day on Saturday October 28.

Visit the famous showgrounds for a day outdoors with a variety of activities, food stalls and sights to behold that will cater to everyone’s interests for a day of full-on farm-style family fun.

There will be local market stalls available for tasty treats and items for sale, or simply enjoy the feeling of grass underfoot and have a picnic or a stroll. Alternatively you can try your hand at some traditional sports such as tossing the caber and anvil-throwing.

For the children, Agrikids the new preschool that recently opened at the showgrounds

is organising traditional games including pin the tail on the donkey, the egg-and-spoon race and the hilarious parent-and-child three-legged race. Of course there will be fantastic facepainting and more activities for kids to enjoy.

There will also be a car boot market and should anyone wish to take part and sell their wares it will cost R50 a car.

There will be braai fires on the go, however you are urged to buy your meat at the venue, as well as ice cream and pancakes from the Wesley Methodist Church. Plus the showgrounds’ pub will be open.

Take a break from the modern world and delve back to a simpler time and enjoy a day of unwinding, family, laughter and good times.

The family fun day has it all, from fun races and games, bike rides, an art exhibition, to simply enjoying a day out and that includes the entire family; even dogs are welcome on leashes.

Put together an eight person team for the tugof-war and try to take the floating trophy from the Bathurst Arms.

Entry to the showgrounds is entirely free it is an important fundraising event for maintaining the facility and so the organisers ask that once you’re there, you spend on the worthwhile activities and food and drinks available.

Vendors are still welcome so if you want to join in on the fun then contact 072-296-4993 for further details and bookings. The stall fee is R50. but
