Victoria Girls’ High School (VGHS) has provided a holistic education without compromising on quality teaching and learning in a constantly shifting educational climate for 126 years.

At present there are 450 pupils representative of a diverse and transformative SA, woven together by the VGHS core values passion, integrity and excellence.

With accolades such as Sunday Times’ Top 100 schools in SA, VGHS continues to be a school of excellence.

This is primarily due to the strong academic focus that is at the core of the school’s success, supported by the consistent 100% matric pass rates and excellent bachelor’s pass rates that, in the 2022 matric results, was 92%.

VGHS offers a wide variety of subjects within its two main academic pillars; the sciences and the arts. In the sciences stream, pupils are able to participate in specialised internship programmes run by Rhodes University and the SA Institute for Aquatic

Biodiversity (SAIAB).

In the arts stream, pupils have access to specialised facilities at the Johan Carinus Art Centre, a vibrant dramatic arts department as well as individual and group classes, and ensembles.

Pupils have the opportunity to tailor a subject package to suit their academic strengths which can include subjects from each of the academic pillars.

Pupils have opportunities to play both team and social sports, as well as participate in cultural clubs and activities.

Community outreach is a key facet of VGHS and the Interact Society, among others, is very active in the local community.

For a home-away-fromhome, VGHS offers excellent boarding facilities in their weekly and termly boarding houses, which are run with the help of dedicated hostel staff.

Eleanor Brown House is home to the grade 8 and 10 boarders and is linked to Renfrew House, where the grade 9s stay, via a passage.

Denise Long House, houses seven weekly boarders. Girls arrive on a Sunday evening and leave each weekend on Friday after school.

Barnard House is the senior hostel, which houses grade 11s and 12s, is the perfect place for mature, dedicated young people.
