Desperation to vacate the warmth of their loved ones, after being secluded indoors for much of the past week, 19 players were drawn in five three-balls and one four-ball to contest an alliance stableford two-scores-to-count format with a bonus point for a “sandy”, a par from a bunker. In keeping with KGB introductions of curve balls the four-ball was to have five points deducted from their overall score at

No respite from difficult weather conditions of late saw 37 players into the draw to contest an alliance stableford two-scores-to-count format with a bonus point available for a “sandy”, a par from a bunker. The westerly wind was relentless, averaging well into the high 50km/h range, with gusts exceeding that, making for extreme challenges to shot making and even more so keeping the ball on some of the more exposed greens. Mark Warren, Brian Shirley, Nick Oosthuizen and Andy Manson however dealt with these seemingly minor distractions posting 85 points to finish in first place. The only other covey to reach the eighties was Jenny Ralph, Henry Ellis and Don Thomson on 83 (78+5) points, which earned a comfortable second place. Competition below that was somewhat fiercer and Neil Loundar, Andy Stembridge, Keith Rugg and Mike Beaumont returned home on 65 points to secure the Hamer& Sukkel for their table at prize-giving, to the relief of many others in the field. Henry Ellis and Heinz Czepluch both birdied the par three sixth hole and being in separate coveys the two-club pool carried over. Individual performances were well below norm but considering the wind, it bears mention that James Lobban with an individual 72 nett played to his handicap and Jenny Ralph was one better with a superb individual 71 nett.
